Liberty National Golf Club 2020
Summer Internship
Liberty National Golf Club stands before America and its symbolic statue as golf's showcase for
the best players in the world. Our mission is to create a golf experience for our members and
guests that is equivalent to what is withstood by professional golfers playing any major
tournaments. Our course is kept in tour level playing conditions on a daily basis. Liberty
National Golf Club upholds the highest of standards in the golfing industry.
About Liberty National
• Owned by Paul Fireman and located in Jersey City, New Jersey
• Liberty National opened its doors on July 4th, 2006 after nearly14 years of
conceptualizing, constructing, and pristine design by Tom Kite and Bob Cupp
• Hosted FedEx Cup events in 2009, 2013 and most recently the 2019 Northern Trust
• Hosted the 2017 Presidents Cup
• Host site of the 2020 Polo Golf Junior Classic
• Host site of the 2020 Nexus Cup
• Host site of the 2021 Northern Trust
• Has gone under a few minor renovations with the constant intention to continually
improve the golf course and club
Objective of Program
• The opportunity for hands-on experience in turfgrass management at a private facility
• To develop and improve on communication, operation, time management and teamwork
• Network within the industry
• Continue to grow and mentor students in the industry
Responsibilities
• Setting up the course for daily play
• Operation of an assortment of golf course equipment in maintaining championship
conditions on a daily basis
• Involvement in all cultural practices
• Participation in our pesticide and fertilization program
• An understanding of calibration of spreaders and sprayers
• Assistance in irrigation troubleshooting and repair on Toro Lynx Irrigation System
• Contribution in drainage projects
• Small crew management
• Learn to apply effective hand watering techniques at a unique facility
Turf Types
• Greens-A-4 bentgrass
• Tees and Fairways-L-93 bentgrass
• Rough- low mow kentucky bluegrass
Requirements and Benefits
• Enrolled in or exploring Turf management school
• Golf
• Off-site housing
• Lunch
• Tournament experience
• $12.00 hr. + overtime
