COVID -19 NOTIFICATION
At the time of print New Zealand is in Covid-19 Level 1 restrictions. Should this change,
we will adhere to any Government regulations.
 •    Under Level 1, all the Show days can run. QR codes and sanitation points are
      available throughout the site.
 •    Under Level 2, a restricted program with no public, trades, or entertainment.
      Changes will be advised on our Facebook page.
 •    Under Level 3, the show will be cancelled.
PAYMENT OF PRIZE MONIES
All prize monies will be paid into the bank account notified on the entry form. There will

be NO PAYMENT on the day. Payment will be made within 14 working days from 1
February 2021. The A&P committee takes no responsibility for incorrect bank account
details advised by the prize winner.

RULES and REGULATIONS
Please see the Palmerston & Waihemo A&P Assn. Inc. Rules and Regulations, and those
Rules of the Royal Agricultural Society under which this Show operates. These are found
after the Equestrian section.
Equestrian competitors — please see the RAS rules attached at the beginning of the
Equestrian section.
PROTESTS AND OBJECTIONS (All animals except Dairy Cattle)
• The determination of a judge shall be final as between all competitors, unless an
   objection is made to any exhibit and allowed on the ground of disqualification.
• The duly appointed member of the Committee, along with the Chief Stewards shall
   have, at their discretion, power to decide any dispute in their respective divisions
   after consultation with the Senior Stewards of the section involved, with the
   exception of regular protest and appeals.
• All objections or protest must be made in writing within one hour of judging of the
   class in question, signed by the person making such complaint, and delivered to the
   Secretary. No protest will be received later than one hour after the completion of
   the judging.

•   The objector shall, at the time of making such objection, lodge the sum of $50.00
    which shall be refunded should the objection or protest be sustained.
•   Protests will be received without deposit from Judges only.
•   If the protest is lodged prior to Judging, the onus of proof will rest with the
    exhibitor. If the judging has already commenced, the onus of proof will be with the
    party protesting.
•   All protests will be decided as soon as practicable and the decision made shall be
    final.
•   If a prize-winner were afterwards disqualified, the Committee may, with or without
    the advice of the judge, decide whether the next animal on the list shall gain the prize.
 MEMBERSHIP
•  To enable the Committee to meet expenses and to successfully carry out the
   various competitions during the year, they respectfully request that subscriptions
   be forwarded to the Secretary as early as possible.
•  Members' tickets are strictly personal, and not transferable.
•  The proper maintenance of the Society's operations requires a large number of
   members, and the Committee has every confidence in asking for additional support
   to enable the Society to extend its usefulness.
•  The single Annual Subscription is twenty dollars ($20).
MEMBER'S PRIVILEGES
• One Member's ticket for the Annual Show.
• A ticket for FREE entry to 13 other RAS Southern District shows.
• Entry to Members' car park at the Annual Show.
• Reduction in Equestrian Entry Fees.
• To attend and vote at General Meetings of the Association.
• To attend the AGM and vote to elect members for the Management Committee.
SUBSCRIPTION ARREARS
Members tickets will be issued when subscriptions have been paid in full.

• To enter a show the exhibitor must use the complete name of the donkey or mule
    as it is shown on the registration certificate.
• An unruly donkey or mule may be excused from the ring by the Judge or Steward
    for reasons of safety.
• For the purposes of showing, the age of a donkey or mule is calculated with all

• Jacks two years and over must be shown in a bit. Miniature jacks may be shown in
    a stallion chain instead of a bit.

RAS GR 4. HATS AND SAFETY HELMETS
a) In all cases current WorkSafe New Zealand rules prevail.
b) All riders, including harness drivers, competing at RAS affiliated A&P Shows/Events
    must wear protective headgear, which includes a retaining harness secured to the
    shell at more than two points. Such headgear must be worn with the chinstrap
    properly adjusted and fastened when in the arena or ring, the practice area, collecting
    rings or anywhere else within a Showgrounds or the grounds of an affiliated Event.
c) Hats/helmets must conform with one of the current approved safety standards, which
    may be subject to change but the latest list can be found at http://www.ras.org.nz –
    equestrian. RAS will advise any changes via their website and Facebook.
d) All hats/helmets that conform as per c) must be identified by the current tag system
    implemented by NZPCA, ESNZ and RAS.
       RED TAGGED HELMETS ARE MANDATORY FOR ALL RIDERS WHEN MOUNTED.

Please note that all HOY Qualifier events are subject to RAS rules as follows:
  • "Competitors and Exhibitors at affiliated Shows and Events are expected to abide

      OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM or on Showdayonline.

  • "Dry mare is a mare not in foal during the current show season (1st August - 31st

  • "Mares shown in brood mare classes must have a foal at foot or present a veterinary

  • Refunds Policy: Only class entry fees refunded after:
      • submitting a doctor's certificate within one week of the Show and/or
      • submitting a veterinarian's certificate within one week of the Show and/or
      • submitting a letter of explanation to Committee within one week of the Show.

i) Yellow Card - This Show/Event supports the RAS "Yellow Card" system.
A Yellow Card will be issued in cases of offences in respect of abuse of animals, or
inappropriate behaviour as per the RAS Constitution and the RAS Rules & Regulations/
Bylaws, including the Equestrian Rulebook, the RAS affiliated Show/Event/registered
Measuring Stand and their grounds, and their duly appointed delegates may deliver to
the person responsible a Yellow Warning Card (either immediately or within 10 days of
the show), which suspends any penalty until possible new offences. Full wording of
"Yellow Card" system is available to view on the RAS website - www.ras.org.nz
ii) Clean Sport
The rules of the Royal A&P Society New Zealand in regard to Clean Sport apply.
Competitors are advised that tests for forbidden substances may be carried out during
the Show/Event and that testing of all animals is at the person's responsible risk.
Forbidden Substances –any substance capable of affecting the speed, stamina,
courage, or conduct of a horse, pony, donkey, or mule by its action upon the central or
peripheral nervous system or the cardiovascular, repiratory, alimentary, digestive,
muscoskeletal, or urogenital system.
Please note:
• The RAS Equestrian Levy of $1.15 is incorporated with the entry fees as set.
• An exhibit may only be entered in the Show Hack or Riding Horse or Saddle Hunter
     section as per RAS ruling.

Section 59 Unity Trophies

• Riders can enter ONE class only and only ride ONE horse or pony.
• No horse or pony can be entered for more than one rider.
• Snaffle bits (as per for Lead Rein and First Ridden) only for all Unity classes.
• Semi-formal to formal dress; Whips may be carried.
• Both rider and horse or pony must be named on the entry form, otherwise the
    competitor will be disqualified.

• Rider’s date of birth must be stated on the entry form. Age as at 1 August 2020.
• Horse or pony must be owned by the competitor or his/her immediate family.
    Leases and partnerships which have been registered with the RAS and have been
    in place for at least 60 days prior to the Show date are also permitted.
• If competitors are not ready when called, they may be disqualified.
• Winners from this event will be eligible for other Unity Trophy competitions.
Judging
• The winner will be a combination, scoring the most points at the end of
    any competition.
• The judges will select a winner from the section they have not judged previously.
• For all cups, the same combination of pony or horse and rider, having once won
    the event, may compete in the same competition in succeeding years but with a
    penalty of 10 points.
• The same combination can compete in any other competition for which they are
    eligible in succeeding years without penalty.
Aims of Unity Competition
• To encourage and maintain the use of correct saddlery.
• To promote riding ability and sympathy between rider and mount.
• To present a calm, obedient, and well-schooled mount.
• To promote horsemanship.
• Judges will be instructed that well-kept older gear will be marked higher than new.
