2019 JOBS FOR YOUTH CAMPAIGN REPORT 21st May - 20th September 2019 1. INTRODUCTION The Inner Northern Youth Employment Taskforce (INYET) is a collaborative, action-oriented regional partnership established in 2014 to address high youth unemployment in Melbourne’s Inner North. In the initial phase the INYET partnership worked to develop a regional youth employment strategy with representation from local government, education providers, community organisations and service providers. This work was based on research completed in 2014 which gathered information from young people; identifying issues they felt were affecting their employment prospects. The Inner Northern Youth Employment Strategy was developed as a result. The Taskforce change framework consists of four key change elements, which are: • building the skills, knowledge and attitude of young people • building the capacity of local business to support young people into work • building stronger connections between business, schools, education providers, and community organisations • increasing access to employment The framework provides a coordinated and strategic approach to youth employment across the region. Key initiatives that have resulted include the Jobs for Youth Campaign; development of an Employer Youth Pledge model; expansion of the Real Industries Real Jobs program; establishment of a Vocational Mentoring Exchange Pilot program; creation of the Inner Northern Industry Speaker Bank; and establishment of a Youth Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Hub. In 2017 INYET commissioned a new report Connect: mapping initiatives to empower young people into work to build on the initial research which included further surveys with young people on their views and experiences on youth employment. The recommendations from the ‘Connect’ report have been adopted and form the priorities for the 2018 – 2020 INYET Strategic Plan. One of the recommendations is to continue with the Jobs for Youth Campaign from 2018 – 2020 building on the regional collaboration already established. | 03

| 1513. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INYET 2020 – 2021
Introduction
The strategic work of INYET is broader than just the Jobs for Youth Campaign ( JFYC) with a number of strategic
initiatives being activated ready for further development in 2020. The Vocational Mentoring Exchange will be established
in 2020 with the development of the Mentoring Matters program with 240 young people from local schools over the next
three years. The Youth Mentoring Hub will be working with six local secondary schools and three special schools to pilot
a new VCAL curriculum in 2020. Both of these projects have stand alone working groups to steer their development.
The JFYC has grown steadily over the 5 years and is well-positioned. The 2020 campaign will deliver the range of
events and activities to create coordinated effort in relation to work readiness and job preparation programs. The
recommendations are made with the view to continue the enhancement of our communication and social media platform,
including assessing the usability of JFY websites. The taskforce is also aiming to increase employer engagement and
promote ways more employers can engage in with young people.
