The Transportation Concept of the City of Berlin–An Example for Sustainable Transport in Urban Areas Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) 19. April 2018
The BVG keeps Berlin moving over an area of three major German cities.
On average, each Berliner makes three journeys per day, and in
the process spends about 70 minutes in traffic.
The Berlin Mobility Act plans to
improve the efficiency of the
transport system as a whole.
It also supports the goal of the
Berlin Senate to make motorised
transport in Berlin climate-neutral by
2050.
Moreover, the intention is to reduce
over the long term the number of
road traffic fatalities and seriously
injured persons to a minimum
(vision zero).

In the growing city Berlin the use of the public transport system becomes more and more important. Until 2013 transports have accumulated to additional 360.000 trips on a normal working day.
The BVG operates a leading 73 percent of the 1.5 billion journeys on public transport in Berlin.
With a total of 3,000 vehicles, we set a record of 1 billion passengers in 2015.
London, Moscow, Madrid, Paris – our underground network occupies 5th position among the European metropolises.
After Melbourne, St Petersburg and Sofia, Berlin’s tram network is the fourth largest in the world.
With almost 6,500 stops, we operate Germany’s largest urban bus network.
Our infrastructure services, among the largest works contractors in the region, are responsible for railway facilities, track engineering and electrical installations.
