General Session Keynote: Bridging the Gaps - How to Transfer
          Knowledge in Today’s Multigenerational Workplace

There’s a lot of talk about transferring knowledge from older to younger workers, yet few are
doing anything meaningful about it. Despite the obstacles, such as the radically different
learning styles and motivators each generation brings to the game, knowledge transfer can be
practiced and learned. Using examples and stories from the public and private sectors, Kent
Greene will share the critical truths about knowledge transfer and proven techniques you can
start using today to improve your individual, team and organizational performance.

Speaker: Kent A. Greenes, Founder & President, Greenes Consulting
Kent has worked internationally in a variety of executive, operations, technology and business renewal
roles in energy, engineering and consulting industries. He currently has his own consulting business and
is the Program Director for The Conference Board’s Knowledge & Collaboration and Change &
Transformation Councils. Prior to that worked at BP and SAIC.

Severe Service Valves for Applications with High Percentages of Solids
This presentation will cover the evolution of valves for use in slurry systems and current technology and
design for valves with high percentages of solids.
Speaker: Ross Waters, Chairman, CG Industrial Specialties

Understand NACE MRO103 and NACE MRO175/ISO for Proper Materials Selection for
Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries
The presentation will begin with a brief overview of metallic materials acceptance criteria in NACE
MR0103 and NACE MR0175/ISO 15156. Ideas will be provided on how to work with the customer to
understand the applicable NACE specification and all relevant process and environmental considerations
needed to identify and recommend valve component material. The presentation will conclude with
representative examples of materials selection and considerations for several common environments
containing H2S w/wo H2, Amines, Naphthenic Acid, Sulfuric Acid, Nitrogen Oxides, etc.
Speaker: Ning Sun, Materials Laboratory Manager, Neles USA, Inc.

                                                                                           Continued. . .
Emerging Topics: An End User Perspective
This presentation will outline several critical aspects of valve design, including the need for versatile low
emission graphitic packing suitable for elevated temperature service, valve condition monitoring and
consistent casting quality.
Speaker: Steve McJones, Advisor Static Equipment, BP Products North America

New Metallic Sealing Arrangement for Quarter-Turn Valve Stems
Quarter-turn valve stem sealing can be a difficult matter in certain conditions. This function is usually
ensured by elastomer seals or packings (braid &/or graphite rings). However, for some cases (e.g. deep
subsea, very high temperature applications, sealing of highly aggressive chemicals) the use of a purely
metallic sealing solution can be a necessity. It is possible to make a metal sealing thanks to a new
concept which will be presented in detail. The concept was tested on mock-up, and superior sealing
performance was demonstrated. Some test results will be disclosed in the presentation.
Speaker: Laurent Guimet, Product Engineering Manager, Maestral Laboratory

Valve Flow and Cavitation Performance Parameters
This presentation will discuss important valve flow and cavitation parameters.
Speakers: Michael Johnson, Research Professor, Utah Water Research Laboratory, Utah State
University

IIoT Challenges in the Valve World
Today, Big Data is a commonly used and often overused term in today’s IoT environment. From
Merriam-Webster, Big Data is “an accumulation of data that is too large and complex for processing by
traditional database management tools”. But we know from experience with IIoT and valves and
instruments, Big Data has a much different twist. The data tends be relatively small in comparison,
kilobytes not petabytes with collection intervals in days, not milliseconds. It comes from sparse,
disparate data sources that don’t have an inadequate infrastructure to collect the information required
and formidable security requirements to access that data. Yet, with these daunting challenges comes
the promise of improved control, reliability and maintenance. This session will walk through these
issues and what they mean for the valve industry.
Speaker: John Fuller, Marketing Director, Research, Emerson Automation Solutions

Industry 4.0: Dramatically Improving Engineering and Manufacturing Productivity
Industry 4.0 PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) automation use by manufacturers has doubled in the
last 3 years, and it typically reduces total cycle time by 75%. Yet many OEMs and their suppliers struggle
to understand and fully utilize Industry 4.0 PLM automation – putting their careers and businesses at risk
while competitors implement this technology. The presentation will define Industry 4.0 PLM
automation, review case studies showing how OEMs and their suppliers fully utilize it, and discuss a
practical approach to roadmap design and implementation. It will also cover Industry 4.0 PLM
automation in all PLM engineering functions such as systems, design, analysis/simulation, test,
manufacturing, and service.
Speaker: John Lambert, President and CEO, Design Automation Associates, Inc.
                                                                                              Continued. . .
Industry Standards Update (part 1): Overview
This presentation will provide an update to US Industry standards organizations and their corresponding
published valve standards. Three Industry organizations will be covered including ASME B16 Codes and
Standards, API Refining and Manufacturers Standardization Society, MSS. Important revisions to current
and new standards covering valves, flanges, piping components and quality procedures will be
discussed.
Speaker: Carlos Davila, Product Manager, Crane ChemPharma

Industry Standards Update (part 2): ISO, ASTM, AWWA and Other Standards
Hear updates on standards managed by a number of other organizations that impact valves and
actuators. These include the ASTM G04, Committee on Compatibility and Sensitivity of Materials in
Oxygen Enriched Atmospheres, which impact valves used in oxygen and similar services; the American
Water Works Association (AWWA)’s new high-performance butterfly valve standard, C519, as well as
changes in the 3rd edition to AWWA’s standard M49, Quarter-Turn Valves: Head Loss, Torque, and
Cavitation Analysis. Additional gate, check, ball valve standards developed by AWWA will also be
discussed. Finally the latest update on ISO and IOGP valve and actuator standards development will be
reviewed.
Speakers:
Stan Allen, Global Director, Valve Application Engineering, Bray International
David Bayreuther, Director of Ball Valves, Metso Flow Control USA, Inc.

Exploring Cultural Assumptions: Way Beyond Diversity 101
We live and work in a complex world and every day we must work effectively and smartly with diverse
populations in fair, balanced, and collaborative manner. While many of us have been taught to overlook
differences around us, particularly in power, privilege and hierarchy, bias and discrimination are still
embedded patterns in our lives. These are called perspective, and along with it comes myriad
assumptions about the world. Now more than ever we need to examine our own patterns, beliefs, and
connections. What exactly are the nature of differences; the concepts of power and influence; and daily
expectations for interaction and relationships? This timely presentation will challenge participants to
new ways of seeing, understanding, and influencing the culture around them.

Cyber-securing Your Mined Bytes
As business sectors work to enhance efficiency through digitization, data are created at a
lightening pace. Generating data is only the first step in creating meaningful and actionable
information. Data mining is the process of discovering patterns in large sets of data and the
transformation of these data into something companies can monetize. All of these mined data
are subject to risk when shared across networks, loaded into visualization systems, or simply
resting in storage. Cybersecurity is to provide a method for safeguarding digital information and
defending against unauthorized access or exploitation of critical data resources. We will discuss
cybersecurity practices to protect your organization's future innovations.
