Shepherdswell, Dover. Registered Charity No. 1095790 Climb aboard for a journey back in time along the historic and picturesque East Kent Railway. Once a thriving industrial line serving the Kent Coalfield, the four mile round trip takes you on an interesting journey between the pretty villages of Shepherdswell and Eythorne. You’ll see rolling countryside, steep chalk-lined cuttings and the fascinating Golgotha Tunnel which make this a trip to be remembered. On some special events you can also ride one of our newly restored Brake Vans behind one of our engines. We operate a unique mix of heritage rolling stock, Shunting Engines, Southern Region Electric & Diesel Electric Units along with our new coaches. You can also see our restoration work in progress, for example St. Dunstan, our historic colliery steam engine which we are cosmetically restoring. Brake Van Rides
Shepherdswell Station
Entry to our main site at Shepherdswell is FREE and is open from
Tuesday to Sunday throughout our operating season. Visitors
can enjoy refreshments and meals in our cafe and are welcome
to use our picnic facilities. The site is bordered by the beautiful
Knees Woodland, and a series of interesting nature walks are
marked within.
Knees Woodland
Visitors can also enjoy a ride on both of our miniature railways.
We boast a magnificent model railway housed in a lovingly
restored LMS Stanier Carriage, which is open on all running
days, along with our visitor centre in The Old Barham Signal Box
at Shepherdswell which houses an award winning hand painted
map of the old line on the walls. Dogs are welcome throughout
our site provided they are kept on a lead.
The Woodland Miniature Railway
THE KNEES WOODLAND
The Knees Woodland is over 350 years old and contains an original open air
water tank which was once used to refill steam engines on the line. There
are also WW2 trenches which have been restored and are open on certain
running days. At the right time of year The Knees Woodland is carpeted with
beautiful Bluebells. The Knees is an ideal place to take a leisurely stroll or to
explore, you may be surprised by what you can find.
At our Ranger Station you will be able to collect maps, information and
activities for your visit. Woodland staff are available to answer questions
and also to help and support your visit.
The Woodland Learning Zone is a unique multifunctional learning
environment that boasts a fully equipped classroom that will comfortably
hold 15-20 people and is available for private bookings and school groups
along with being open for Bug Hunts and the like on certain operating days.
EYTHORNE STATION
The station includes a car park,
pretty gardens and picnic area
with a play area for young
children. There is a unique
café, where you can sit outside
in a tranquil environoment
and listen to the birds or sit
inside a cosy wagon and have
something to eat and drink.
On running days the trains will
stop next to where you are sitting!
Educational Visits
We have a fully equipped Learning Zone that
can seat 15-20. Available for booking.
We can offer a wide range of activities and
worksheets, many linked to the curriculum, in a
variety of subjects:
● HISTORY ● TEAM BUILDING
● GEOGRAPHY ● PROBLEM SOLVING
● NATURE
All of which can be arranged on booking.

Santa Specials
Christmas is a special time, so what better way to
celebrate it than visiting Santa at the East Kent
Railway!
We offer a unique experience in our festively
decorated train with onboard DJ.
Visit Santa in the grotto at Eythorne and receive a
personalised present for your child! Adults can enjoy
a mince pie and warming drink in the Eythorne tea room.

Shepherdswell Station is our main site and is located close to the A2
Dover to Canterbury Road, adjacent to the main line railway station.
Our Eythorne Station is situated 5 minutes from A256 Dover to
Sandwich Road. Both sites offer Free Parking.
For Sat Nav please use CT15 7PD Station Road (Shepherdswell) or
CT15 4AX Shooters Hill (Eythorne).
BY RAIL
Shepherdswell Station on the South Eastern Railways line from Dover
to Canterbury and London Victoria is adjacent to the EKR site.
BY BUS
Buses run on most days from Ramsgate, Dover, Canterbury to
Eythorne Station.
