FOREWORD

T
he Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society is a leading
platform dedicated to highlighting women’s voices and added-
values on global issues. We believe in women leaders’ distinctive
capacity to create positive impact on their employees, communities
and societies.

Headquartered in Paris with global influence, and with the support
of our partners, the Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society is
committed to accelerating inclusive progress and empowering women
across society. Accelerating inclusion, too, means taking action to
engage men as participants, and creating the conditions for women
and men to work together on the world’s most pressing challenges.

We aim to engage for impact: we work with women leaders from around
the world to bring tangible recommendations, innovative solutions
and commitments on key social, economic and environmental issues,
from inequality to climate change. We amplify these viewpoints and
commitments to influence relevant stakeholders through the G7, G20
and other international platforms.

Our yearly Global Meeting in Paris has become an unmissable and
incomparable date on the international conference calendar – a place
to be and to be heard. And through daring dialogue at our continental
Meetings around the world, we build networks of ambassadors for
impact; bridge generations, countries and cultures; and empower
leaders - both women and men - to make the difference.

In tandem, the Women’s Forum drives a range of Initiatives throughout
the year in partnership with businesses, cultural, academic and media
leaders and non-governmental organisations. These secure and
underscore commitments by business leaders to women’s advancement,
uncover evidence-based insights and promote tangible action on issues
that need women’s leadership, and highlight the accomplishments of
emerging women leaders, among others.

This year’s aspiration to take the lead for inclusion as a means of
creating a more cohesive and vibrant society is a natural continuation
of building bridges and our powerful ambition for the future.
We invite you to join us. Let’s engage for impact together!

2019 VISION

                                     Taking the lead for inclusion

                                     M
any countries and societies have made proposals to narrow
the gender gap through best practices and public policies, but
much has yet to be done. The Women’s Forum for the Economy
& Society has been driving progress in gender equality for 15 years.
It is time to accelerate to engage for impact by highlighting women’s
perspectives on global challenges like digital transformation, climate
change, future of work and societal and political upheaval.
Taking the lead for inclusion will be our overarching mission for 2019.

For the Women’s Forum it means removing barriers and creating access
for women to participate fully in social and economic life, and driving
inclusion across geography, class, race, institutions, generations or
Aimee Mullins other divisions. Beyond equal participation, inclusion means bringing
women leaders to substantive decision-making roles that address the
formidable societal and environmental challenges our world faces. And
it means taking action to engage men as participants, and creating the
conditions for women and men to work together to write HIStory and
                                     HERstory.

In 2019, we aim to deliver actions and solutions to promote women’s
empowerment and leadership across economies and societies. It is
now time to take the lead all year round in all our events, to influence
global agendas such as the G7 and G20.

The overarching theme of Taking the lead for inclusion informs the
Global and Regional Meetings of the Women’s Forum for the Economy
& Society, and their accompanying programmes and initiatives which
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
take on the most pressing global issues and challenges facing humanity.
Jean-Bernard Lévy The related themes of each meeting help to organise our collective
thinking and unlock a body of insights and content that create influence
                                     and impact throughout the year.

With each programme comes a call to action and a commitment.
In every meeting we ask participants: what do we do next? We are
committed to bringing diverse perspectives to these discussions.

With their finger on the pulse of established and emergent issues, our
speakers put our programme at the leading edge of a global exchange
                                     of ideas.

We hope that you will join us to take the lead and bring women’s
perspectives and leadership to bear on the world’s challenging issues,
Phumzile Miambo-Ngcuka not only for women but for the whole humanity.

llustrating the Women’s Forum’s increasingly vital role as a powerful
and influential international platform for women’s voices, the flagship
Women’s Forum Global Meeting in Paris, builds on the success of
Women’s Forum Meetings with a regional focus.

Under the vision of Bridging Humanity, in May 2018 the Women’s Forum
Canada was a unique opportunity to generate concrete ideas to inform
and influence the agenda of the G7 Summit, bringing a crucial gendered
perspective on topics like inclusive growth, economic empowerment,
climate action and shaping lives through technology. In September
2018, the inaugural Women’s Forum Singapore was the pioneering
event to foster women’s leadership through innovation and economic
impact in ASEAN countries. These regional meetings brought continuity
and a global perspective to the Women’s Forum Global Meeting in Paris
which was held in November 2018.

2019 will be a year of actions for the Women’s Forum as we take the
lead on how inclusion foster sustainable and equitable development
for women and men. The Women’s Forum was in Luxembourg to
empower victims of sexual violence in fragile environments with the
international conference "Stand Speak Rise Up!", an initiative of HRH
the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg. Women’s Forum Americas and
Women’s Forum Asia in May and in September respectively will lead
the discussions and practices on women’s leadership, inclusivity and
diversity from the Americas to Asia. A special Forum in Kyoto will
address a call on climate for G20. The Women’s Forum Global Meeting
in November will be the culmination of a year of activities directed
at tackling global issues through gendered perspectives and inclusive
solutions.

n 2019, with the Women’s Forum, the Global Strategic
Members: American Express, AXA, BNP Paribas,
Google, L’Oréal, Microsoft, P&G, and Publicis Groupe
co-construct the objectives and goals for the year,
providing leadership, direction and expertise to inform
the overall positioning of the organisation as well as
its priorities. This committed group of global leaders
represents a diverse group of sectors and industries, and
ensures that the Women’s Forum aligns its work to the
                most significant global challenges.

The Strategic Committee leads the Women’s Forum
community in its ambition Engage for Impact on the global
issues most affecting women and where the leadership
of women is paramount. The spirit of the Strategic
Committee is one of collaboration and bringing together
like-minded business leaders with the goal of having a
                real and positive impact.
Promoting
key goals of
the Women’s Forum
over the long term
through its Initiatives
DARING CIRCLES

    B
Building on the theme of the Global Meeting in October 2017 – Daring to lead in a disrupted
world - the Daring Circles invite leaders to question their assumptions, and to re-engage for
the impact they want to create in their organisations and their communities. These cross-
industry working groups have the ambition of translating the rich agenda of the Women’s Forum
Meetings into permanent conversations to deliver tangible positive societal and economic outcomes
    for women and society.

The Daring Circles invite select business leaders, experts and influencers to do exactly that: engage
for long-term positive impact on issues where women are disproportionately impacted and where
the leadership of women is paramount. Together, the Daring Circles inform and shape the debate
on selected issues, promote collaborative ways of working among our institutions in the face of
continuing global challenges and find innovative solutions.

A summary of the Daring Circles currently in motion:

    WOMEN & ACCESS TO HEALTH

The Women & Access to Health Daring Circle is led by AXA and Sanofi in collaboration with BNP
Paribas and Google, and in association with RB and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. This Circle of
partners aims to improve and promote women’s access to health, in both developed and developing
countries, by supporting emerging technologies that are addressing these gaps.

There are many barriers obstructing women’s access to health. Shortcomings in data or research to
inform healthcare providers about women’s particular healthcare needs can result in misdiagnosis
or improper treatment – including for mental health. Limited awareness, education and lack of
information can limit women’s ability to care for themselves. Excessive distances and cost, in
both time and money, are all interrelated factors that create difficulties for women in acquiring
the care that they need. Through research and interviews with both partner and external
experts, the Circle is deepening its understanding of the gaps in healthcare access for women
and will publish its research on the topic in 2019. The partners are committed to addressing
these issues, and in particular promoting women’s leadership in developing tech solutions.

To put this commitment into action, this Daring Circle is collectively sponsoring a call for initiatives.
The goal is to support entrepreneurs and innovators who are creating solutions that improve
women’s access to health and promote the role of women in enabling and providing access to
    health.

    WOMEN & AI

The Women & AI Daring Circle is led by Microsoft in collaboration with Google, L’Oréal, BNP
Paribas, Publicis Group and AXA. The partners are joined by UNESCO as an institutional partner
and FTI Consulting supports the Circle as knowledge partner. This Circle of partners is committed
to increase the participation and visibility of women working in AI, as well as to capitalise on AI’s
potential to benefit women and all of humanity.

The Daring Circle recognises the importance of shifting global narratives for achieving this - a
positive approach to AI technologies is necessary to ensure that companies and governments take
action and ensure that women (and all other members of society) are involved in the process of
shaping AI and can share in the prosperity brought about by its advances.

Through a programme of research and consultation the Daring Circle is committed to outlining
concrete steps to drive for greater inclusion and empowerment of women through AI and to create
targets and initiatives that organisations can work towards. In parallel the Circle will harness the
convening power of The Women’s Forum, to gathering and showcase compelling examples of AI
empowering women and women shaping and driving forward AI.
DARING CIRCLES

WOMEN & CLIMATE

The Women & Climate Daring Circle is led by L’Oréal and BNP Paribas, in collaboration with Microsoft
and P&G and in association with Engie. The Daring Circle draws on contributors and experts from
the UNFCCC, C40, R20, We Mean Business, and the OECD amongst others. KPMG and EcoAct are
supporting this Circle as knowledge partners.

The Daring Circles want to identify the levers necessary to build solutions that both empower
women to lead actions against climate change and that consider and address the disproportionate
impact climate change has on women’s empowerment and equality whilst creating a new, greener
economy. The imperative for the Daring Circle’s focus is two-fold: 1) Greater empowerment and
participation of women is critical to successful climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies.
2) The transition to a green economy must create opportunities to accelerate progress towards
equality and empowerment for women.

Ultimately, the Circle’s focus is on identifying courses of action. Through a combination of scenario
analysis, research, analysis of existing initiatives and expert consultation, the Circle will work with
a broad array of partners to communicate and promote solutions – both existing and new – to drive
women’s empowerment and climate action simultaneously. The Daring Circle will identify and work
to scale cross-sectorial and industry-specific initiatives that promote opportunities to achieve these
goals.

WOMEN & STEM

The Women & STEM Daring Circle is led by Google in collaboration with American Express, L’Oréal,
Accenture, P&G, Orange, Lenovo, Johnson & Johnson, AXA, BNP Paribas, ATOS and SAP. Boston
Consulting Group and Politecnico di Milano are positioned as knowledge partners.

The Daring Circle recognises the importance of taking a holistic and system view which targets
the full breadth of the Women & STEM pipeline simultaneously; from education to the corporate
environment and beyond. This circle of partners aims to advance and remove barriers to women’s
leadership in science, technology, engineering and mathematics occupations at all levels, thereby
increasing women’s impact through STEM and on the future of STEM itself.

Through its three parallel and mutually supportive work-streams, the Daring Circle will collaborate
to launch pilot actions that members can volunteer for and learn from as a group, complimenting
those actions with research to validate current practices as best practice, provide the basis for
adopting new best practices, and to build a campaign around a new positive narrative for Women
in STEM.

WOMEN & SUPPLIER DIVERSITY

The Women & Supplier Diversity Daring Circle is led by P&G, in collaboration with Amex, BNP
Paribas, L’Oréal and Publicis Groupe. The Daring Circle is partnered with WEConnect International
– a global, corporate-led non-profit that facilitates inclusive and sustainable economic growth by
empowering and connecting women business owners – as well as with UN Women through its
EU-funded programme WE EMPOWER in G7 countries and the Women’s Empowerment Principles
(WEPs) secretariat.

The Daring Circle seeks to improve the infrastructure that enables supplier diversity in Europe – both
that connects women-owned and led businesses to large corporates and that enables companies
to empower women throughout their supply chains. By doing so, we can improve the state of
supplier diversity in Europe and beyond, thereby accelerating the success of women-owned, -
led and -empowered businesses. We want to establish supplier diversity and gender responsive
sourcing as key strategic considerations of companies and other buyers of products and services.
Importantly, we will do this through our own commitments and leadership, our partnerships, and
through original, collective research and action.

WOMEN’S FORUM INITIATIVES

Tracking and driving
measurable progress for
women’s advancement

L
aunched in 2010, CEO Champions is an initiative
designed to drive progress and accountability for
women’s advancement in the private and public
sectors. This peer- to- peer network presents an
opportunity for CEOs to underscore their organisation’s
commitment to women’s advancement as well as taking a
strong leadership role for diversity in the global economy
and society. CEO Champions members are active, highly
committed participants who track and drive measurable
progress for women’s advancement through taking part
in mutual commitments and pushing for accountability.

In 2018, more than 150 CEOs gathered at our CEO
Champions workshops, organised in partnership with the
Knowledge partner of the initiative, McKinsey & Company.
In Canada, Singapore and at our Global Meeting in Paris
we had conversations about how to create the conditions
for revolutionary change in organisations and across
industries as well as exploring changes that CEO’s should
commit to within their organisations to forge the path
ahead for gender equality.

Now in its ninth year, the CEO Champions Initiative is
a pioneering international platform that advocates for
the inclusion of both men and women at leadership level
in the private and public sector. The Women’s Forum is
committed to working closely with its Strategic Members
to optimise this platform and network for lasting impact.

WOMEN’S FORUM INITIATIVES

Nurturing talented
women for the future of
global business and
society

T
he Women’s Forum Rising Talents Initiative aims to
distinguish highly talented young women who are
on their way to becoming influential figures in our
economies and societies. This initiative is a commitment
to promote women leaders and bring the vision of rising
generations to the Women’s Forum.

The Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society and its
partners share a common belief: that the identification
and nurturing of talent among women is critical for the
future of global business and society. Each year 15 young
women are selected to join the Rising Talents network,
attend the Women’s Forum Global Meeting and regional
Women’s Forum Meetings, and benefit from enhanced
networking activities and support during these events
and into the future.

In 2018, the Women’s Forum, together with the partners
of this initiative, Eurazeo, Lazard and Spencer Stuart,
selected 11 inspiring women under 40 from a pool of 200
candidates. Our 2018 Rising Talents hail from all corners of
the world and from a diversity of sectors, from healthcare
and biotechnology to sustainable development and
business innovation. Talents are selected on the basis
of having demonstrated outstanding skills, leadership,
open-mindedness, an international mindset, bravery in
their personal and professional lives and the willingness
to give back to the community. Our 2018 cohort have
already had a highly positive impact in their spheres of
influence, and we look forward to continuing to support
them and their growth in the years to come.

Women’s Forum Global Meeting 2018
Bridging humanity for inclusive progress
(14-16 November 2018 - Paris)

       F
or a society to flourish, the connections among
its people must be strong. Our societies and
economies are a web of relationships among people,
organisations, institutions and ecosystems. Recent events
and trends have widened many of the divisions between
countries, political parties, religions, generations, among
institutions and within communities. Healing the fractures
that have propagated across society’s many dimensions
requires reconciling diverse perspectives and advancing
        together towards a shared vision.

The Women’s Forum Global Meeting 2018 seeks to be
part of that movement by examining global social and
economic issues through the lens of bridging humanity.
It looks to create the conditions to unlock fresh solutions
through women’s leadership – especially for those
challenges that disproportionately impact women – and
contribute to a more inclusive world for all.

Having attracted more than 2500 leaders from 90
countries, the Women’s Forum Global Meeting 2018
discussed the most critical issues of our time, from
climate change to technological disruption throughout the
three days of the event. With the speaking engagements
of influential, passionate and visionary leader from a
diversity of sectors and industries, the discussion and
spirited debate at the Global Meeting examined the
world’s most pressing issues and envisioned solutions.
This exploration of solutions was grouped into three main
        pillars: shifting mind-sets, reimagining organisations
and putting technology to work. The world’s problems
concern all humans, not just women, but women have a
growing role in resolving them. Women leaders offer fresh
perspectives; they take a long-term view, and they are
skilled at building bridges and creating the conditions for
        action and impact.

Bridging worlds for inclusive innovation
(12-14 September 2018 - Singapore)

   S
          ingapore’s diverse and multicultural perspectives
to tackle challenges has made it a thriving hub for
          investment, talent, research, development, and
more. Holding the chairmanship on the completion of 50
years of ASEAN, Singapore is leading the region toward a
    disrupted age innovatively and dynamically.

Gathered more than 800 delegates from 55 countries,
Women’s Forum Singapore works on ensuring that
women are as much the cause, as part of this progress.
Focusing on smart cities, technology, investment and
more, Women’s Forum Singapore was a pioneering event
to foster women’s leadership for social progress and
economic impact in Singapore, ASEAN, Asia and beyond.
It also amplified the exchange of pioneering technologies
and solutions between France and Singapore in their joint
Year of Innovation by giving a platform to entrepreneurs,
CEOs and start-ups from early stages to seed level to
share insights and best practices from their industries.

In an era of continuing disruption, it is imperative to look
beyond the status quo, to tap into the power of human
imagination and to envision many alternatives for a more
sustainable and inclusive future, whether smart and green
cities, more people-oriented work or a more equitable
    and inclusive society.

Bridging the gap: A call to the G7 for inclusive progress
(10-11 May 2018 - Toronto, Canada)

        T
he G7 is a uniquely influential coalition for decision-
making and policy alignment among the world’s
leading economies. It has a powerful influence
on the shape and direction of global solutions, whether
through the policy frameworks it chooses to apply, such
as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), or
through the specific issues it chooses to address. Thus,
the G7’s leaders know they have to listen to diverse
voices in order to make their deliberations as inclusive
as possible. Women’s voices are certainly part of them.

With disruption and division dominating headlines, the
bloc has never been more important. The issues at stake
on their agenda – inclusive growth, jobs for the future,
women’s empowerment, climate change and security –
require urgent action to engage for impact and break out
of outdated patterns and mindsets that stymie progress.
We believe that women can provide the innovative views,
perspectives and daring leadership that are needed to
bridge humanity’s challenges and return the world’s
economies to the path of stability, security and inclusive
        human progress.

        Women’s Forum Canada 2018 gathered 700 leaders
from the G7 countries and beyond to reflect, react, bring
best practices and added value to the topics on the G7’s
agenda. Grounded in potential solutions and actions,
Women’s Forum Canada offered a distinct view of how to
bridge the gaps in an increasingly divided world – between
developed and emerging economies, between the private
and public sectors, between men and women, between
the included and the excluded. It challenged the G7 not
just to take on the issue of gender equality but to unlock
the transformative potential of women’s leadership with
the goal of having an impact on decision-makers.

new leadership – new modes of managing companies and

                               and the world.

This second edition of Women’s Forum Mexico brought
together women and men, each an influencer or high
potential in his or her field, for forward-looking debates

Our premise was that women’s experience, expertise,
and vision are essential for achieving viable social and
economic advancements – so we featured women

                               men counterparts.

Engage for impact! Daring to lead in a disrupted world
(5-6 October 2017 - Paris, France)

        W
e live in urgent times. The world has been
rocked by political, social, economic and
                  environmental shifts. Unexpected election
results revealed the fault lines in our societies. Populism
and protectionism are rising, political tensions are
escalating, armed conflict and natural disasters caused
by climate change are destroying livelihoods and lives.
At the same time, accelerating technological innovation,
automation and artificial intelligence are changing not
just the way we work, but also the way we relate to each
other and conceive of our place in the world.

The Women’s Forum Global Meeting 2017 attracted 2,000
delegates from more than 81 countries to discuss the
most critical issues of our time, from climate change to
technological disruption. The Meeting took as its theme,
“Engage for impact! Daring to lead in a disrupted world!”

Some of the world’s most influential, passionate and
visionary leaders spoke. Delegates included women who
work in war zones, artists, influencers, entrepreneurs,
business executives, young rising talents and many
others. Special country delegations added to the depth
and complexity of discussions. Through discussion and
spirited debate, they examined the world’s most pressing
        issues and envisioned solutions.

This exploration of solutions was grouped into five
main pillars: daring to lead, embracing our humanity,
harnessing technology, thriving through creativity and
        shaping the future of work.

The world’s problems concern all humans, not just
women, but women have a growing role in resolving
them. Women leaders offer fresh perspectives; they take
a long-term view, and they are skilled at building bridges
and creating the conditions for action and impact.

omen’s Forum Rome gathered more than 200
                                  thought-leaders representing government and
                                  business, Nobel prizewinners and top-level
personalities across all sectors from Europe and from
Mediterranean countries. Our ambition is to mobilise
women’s energy to bolster and restore confidence in the
future of Europe, and to build new bridges and facilitate
dialogue between Europe and all Mediterranean countries.

The Treaty of Rome gave rise to the European Union
and to the common desire to improve living standards,
                        guarantee social protection, combat discrimination,
encourage cross-border mobility and promote democracy
                        and personal freedom.

Six decades after the Treaty of Rome was signed, the
European Union has been reeling from one emergency to
another, and EU leaders have responded with a “roadmap”
in an effort to restore confidence and rally support for its
core mission: to achieve lasting peace and growth for its
                        500 million citizens.

Women’s Forum Rome created momentum and delivered
strong messages for co-operation, growth, research &
innovation, energy, infrastructure, mobility, investment &
finance, education, culture. And it provided an opportunity
to discuss and take action on behalf of European values,
to foster prosperity and secure peace.
