NOTE:
Class schedules and activities are subject to change. All in-
person programming will be conducted in accordance with all
applicable public health guidlines.A Message from City Manager Marcella Marlowe, Ph.D
Dear San Marino Residents,
The last year and a half has been a difficult period for all of us, but
I have been inspired by how this community has come together
to help each other, support our local businesses, and find ways to
stay connected. I am immensely grateful for the amazing work our
Community Services Department did to foster a sense of commu-
nity during a period where their traditional programming had to
be shut down almost completely. Our Community Services De-
partment quickly shifted gears and created a comprehensive Virtual
Recreation online resource center, and the Crowell Public Library
began curbside pickup services while conducting online program-
ming like virtual storytime.
As public health orders were loosened, they brought programming
outside and created innovative drive-through events and citywide
scavenger hunts for families. And while doing all that, they were a lifeline to our senior and homebound
residents, doing wellness checks and even going as far as to bringing groceries and other essentials to
those who couldn’t safely leave their homes.
As I write this message in mid-July, City facilities are reopened and in-person programming has returned,
but Los Angeles County has just reinstated an indoor mask mandate due to rising COVID-19 case num-
bers. I am hopeful, however, that by the time you are reading this, we will be moving forward on our
recovery journey, and that we will be seeing each other at all wonderful programs and events the City will
be offering this fall.
For the most up-to-date programming calendar, you can always go to www.cityofsanmarino.org. You can
also subscribe to my weekly e-newsletter that highlights upcoming events and other important City news
by going to www.cityofsanmarino.org/subscribe.

Member and professional bird guide Luke Tiller for a morning exploring Lacy Park seeking out migrant warblers, sparrows and
tanagers as well as those resident species that call Lacy Park home year round. Bring your binoculars, field guides and questions
about birds and birding. This walk is open to all levels but aimed at beginner and intermediate level birdwatchers.” Space is limited.

Take A Slice of Orange County
September 23 | $74
Time: Leave 8:30A (Spot 8:15A) Return 5:00P | Reservations must be made by: September 2, 2021
Meal Choice: 1. Hamburger; 2. Chicken Sandwich; 3. Chicken Ceasar Salad
We begin the day with our guide Curt Tucker, traveling South to Orange County and lunch at Ruby’s Diner(see menu choices above),
located at the site of the original Santa Fe depot. The 1938 era building has been transformed into a show-stopping venue - from a
model train that travels cross-country through a diorama of America to an array of artwork that pays homage to Orange’s historical
past. Next we venture to the Hilbert Museum for a docent-guided tour. This is the nation’s only institution dedicated to the display
of California Scene painting and California representational art. The collection includes oils, watercolors, sketches and lithographs of
rural and urban life in the Golden State and features a who’s who of 20th century California masters.
Lastly we will have time to explore Old Town Orange and its many Antiques stores and gourmet shoppes, and/or visit the California’s
Gold Exhibit and Huell Howser Archives, housed in Chapman University. Join us for a fun Slice of Orange!
