Brazos Independent School District
Asynchronous Plan 2020-2021
1
Board Approved 10/28/2020The goal of Brazos Independent School District’s Asynchronous Plan is to
provide all students with access to rigorous and relevant academic content based on
the TEKS curriculum. Students learning remotely have access to the necessary
resources; academic content and instructional support to learn in the asynchronous
model. This plan is designed to support students, parents and Brazos ISD staff by
outlining clear expectations, daily schedules, academic resources and staff
development necessary for remote learning. This plan outlines the framework to provide
those learning both synchronously and asynchronously with the tools and resources to
be successful this school year.
What is the expectation for daily student engagement?
Engagement: Brazos ISD students are required to be engaged daily with work. TEA
attendance requires students PK-5 to engage in at least 180 minutes daily and grades
6-12 engage in at least 240 minutes daily. The expectations of daily student
engagement and progress will be clearly outlined and published for parents and
students. Student engagement consists of completing daily assignments and/or tasks
and submitting assignments or submitting pictures of tasks completed. Students are
also encouraged to contact teachers daily during their conference time for additional
support.
Engagement Tracking: Remote students will submit their assignments through the
LMS, Google Classroom, email, or packet drop off. Daily engagement tracking will occur
on the remote asynchronous tracking document that will be shared with each teacher
from campus administration. Assignment completion and return will occur daily.
Attendance Procedures: Students who are engaged on a given day will be marked
remote asynchronous present. Students who are not engaged would be marked absent
for the day and the attendance cannot be changed based on the student completing an
assignment or participating in some other asynchronous engagement at a later date.
Approved engagement methods are listed below:
• Daily progress in the Learning Management System (LMS), as defined in the
approved learning plan; or
• Daily progress via teacher-student interactions, as defined in the approved
learning plan; or
• Completion/Turn-in of assignments from student to teacher (potentially via
email, online, or mail).
2
Board Approved 10/28/2020The following procedures are in place for attendance accountability for the campuses.
1. All remote asynchronous students are to be marked present on the day
attendance is taken.
2. Students have until midnight on the day attendance is taken to complete the
appropriate amount of work.
3. Teachers/assigned staff will complete the Remote Attendance Tracking
Document (RAT) by the end of the following day.
4. Any student that did not engage in one the above listed engagements by
midnight is marked absent by the teacher.
5. The attendance clerk on each campus will then make the necessary changes for
the student’s attendance.
Any student who falls below 90% attendance for the time that the course is offered will
not receive credit for the course, regardless of level of “engagement”, this is consistent
with on-campus expectations.
Progress Monitoring and Support
Feedback: Daily feedback will be provided through Google Classroom, emails and/or
phone calls dependent on the access available to the student and their parent/guardian.
District, campus and classroom information will be distributed through various social
media platforms; Facebook, Twitter, website, Instagram and Remind.
Progress and Reports cards will be distributed to the parents of remote learners by mail
Parents are also provided with information on how to access the parent grade book
portal. Feedback will also be provided as needs arise.
Contact logs will be distributed to the teachers to document weekly contact.
Grading Policy: The grading procedures for all learners, remote or face-to-face, will
follow the procedures as written in each campus handbook.
Closing the GAPS: Students will receive assessments and evaluations to measure
student progress and gaps in learning due to the face to face learning closure from
March to May. Campus based assessments as well as I-station, mCLASS Texas Edition
and assessments including in grade level adopted materials will be used. The data will
then be evaluated to assist teachers with planning, developing small group instruction,
tutorials and determining any additional resources needed to assist the teacher.
Special Education/504: Brazos ISD teachers and staff are committed to minimizing
barriers that our students may experience during remote learning. Special Education
3
Board Approved 10/28/2020teachers will work with general education staff, students and their families to create
various ways of student engagement through IEPs to continue rigorous instruction as if
the student was face to face learning. This would include activities that generate
student interest and motivation for learning while providing leveled and personalized
learning. Related services such as counseling and speech therapy are provided
virtually pending parent consent. Parents and Students may contact Lana Johnston at
979-478-6016 for any special education questions or Teresa Ressler at 979-478-6070
for any 504 questions.
English Language Learners: Brazos ISD teachers and staff will work with remote ELL
students to ensure they are receiving the necessary support to be successful. Teachers
will use embedded activities in the adopted curriculum to support students. In addition,
teachers will closely monitor their ELL students and provide them with language support
accommodations as necessary. Parents and students may contact Teresa Ressler at
979-478-6070 or any campus counselor for any questions they may have.
Instructional Schedules
Students have the opportunity in Brazos ISD to learn face to face or remotely.
Students and parents also have the flexibility to change their instructional setting at the
end of each grading period. A flex period is allowed for the first week of school to allow
for parents and students to make a choice for the instructional setting that best fits their
needs. Students learning remotely will have an opportunity to learn both asynchronously
and synchronously, with synchronous learning opportunities increasing at the secondary
level. For students that do not have access to the internet, there will be a non-digital,
paper-based version of instructional content, exercises and supports. Brazos ISD highly
encourages students at the secondary level to learn synchronously for all courses if
possible.

Instructional Materials
Instructional materials used for remote learning are designed to provide students
with the content, structure and support needed to learn remotely. Resources can be
accessed through an online platform as well as a print version. Manipulatives,
consumables, textbooks and other resources are available for students. Drive through
pickup times are available at each campus and an appointment can be scheduled for
pickup of materials. Instructional materials provided to students at our residential
treatment facility will be dropped off and picked up at the campus daily by campus staff
and/or administration.
Materials will be adjusted and adapted and made available in Google Classroom
and Schoology as needed. Students and families will receive instructions on how to access
their instructional content digitally through written instructions as well as videos. Instructional
materials and activities in both synchronous and asynchronous learning will contain the same
content as provided to students in face to face instruction in the classroom. This will ensure that
students returning for face to face instructions after remote learning will be able to adapt to and
have the same content knowledge as students who were attending face to face provided they
completed the assigned content and lessons. To ensure there is a sequential order and
sequence between face to face instruction and remote learning teachers will follow the TEKS
Resource System’s scope and sequence to ensure that content is presented in a logical
sequence.
For students with disabilities, Brazos ISD special education teachers will work with
general education teachers, students, and families to lessen barriers and obstacles the student
may experience in a remote setting. Our goal is to create a variety of ways for engagement of
the instruction to meet the needs of the student’s IEP and 504 plans. Special Education
teachers and staff will reach out daily to students to support them and provide any
accommodations that are listed in the students’ IEP or 504 plan. Special Education teachers
will participate in grade level PLCs to determine accommodations needed to support virtual
learners and adapt instruction for learning style as needed. Teachers will also access ELL and

additional resources such as manipulatives or learning materials that cannot be provided

Board Approved 10/28/2020in Google Classroom and Google Apps by Goggle Certified Staff and will continue with training
as needs arise. Teachers attended Google Training and then were provided time to practice the
methods within their own classrooms with a partner. Schoololgy training was provided to the
Superintendent and Principals and additional training is underway based on the release of
information from the state and the company. Currently Brazos ISD staff is working with Region 6
