Excel Cable Types
The first letter describes the overall screening. The second letter describes
the screening of the individual pairs and the TP refers to the Twisted Pairs.
The reason for the additional letter at the beginning is to avoid confusion of
the different types of screened cables.

Excel Cat5e Unscreened Twisted Pair (U/UTP) Cable
Excel solid conductor Cat5e is a 4 pair U/UTP cable which conforms to the

Excel solid conductor Cat5e is a 4 pair U/UTP cable with a low smoke zero halogen
outer sheath. The cable conforms to Category 5 specification and comes in a
variety of colours. It is also Power Sum Compliant and is tested for FEXT and return
loss. The cable comes in a 305m fast feed box with 305-0 metre markings to help
reduce waste.
Excel Cat5e Unscreened Twisted Pair (U/UTP) Cable - External
Excel solid conductor 4 pair U/UTP external grade cable with black polyethylene
outer sheath. The cable is duct grade, UV resistant and Cat5e compliant. It comes in
a 305m fast feed box with 305-0 metre markings to help reduce waste.
Excel Cat5e Screened Twisted Pair (F/UTP) Cable
Excel solid conductor 4 pair F/UTP is a high performance Category 5e compliant
cable suitable for installations where there may be high levels of EMI and RFI
present. The cable comes with PVC or LSOH outer sheath and 100% aluminium foil
tape screen.

data protocols delivering 1Gbps performance to the workstation.
Designed to be quick and easy to install the cable requires no specialist
installation tools and is supplied in reelex packaging for fast snag free
installation. To reduce waste the cable sheath is numbered from 305m
to 1m, allowing quick and easy calculation of the cable remaining in the
box. The inclusion of polyethylene cross filler ensures optimum cross talk
performance.

Excel Category 6A take the performance capabilities of copper
infrastructure to new levels. Designed to the current ISO, EN and
TIA standards for Class E, augmented Cat6A performance these
products are intended to deliver reliable, high network performance
over link distances of up to 90 metres, including support of emerging
applications such as 10 GBase-T and10 Gigabit Ethernet. Excel Cat6A
cables are jacketed with an Ice Blue low smoke zero halogen LSOH
compound compliant with flame retardant standards as defined in
IEC 60332-1 and smoke emission standards IEC61034.
Excel Cat6A Unscreened Twisted Pair (U/UTP) Cable
Each cable consists of 4 unscreened twisted pairs which are formed
around specifically designed X filler, manufactured from lightweight
flexible polyethelene. The cable has a unique oval appearance to
ensure that installed looms of cables are not able to form consistent
‘side by side’ bundles which would increase the probability of alien
cross talk between adjacent cables. Excel Cat6A cables are jacketed
with an Ice Blue low smoke zero halogen LSOH compound compliant
with flame retardant standards as defined in IEC 60332-1 and smoke
emission standards IEC61034.
Excel Cat6A Screened Twisted Pair (U/UTP) Cable
Each cable consists of two sets of two pairs wrapped together in an ‘S’
configuration with high quality, strong, aluminium/polyester foil tape
providing screening for each pair. The ‘S’ Foil configuration ensures
separation of the pairs ensuring performance. By using two sets of two
pairs has resulted in a reduced diameter and cable weight. The smaller
cable diameter has reduced the cable

Excel Cat5e/Cat 6/Cat 6A Low Profile Unscreened Keystone
Jack - Tooless
The Excel low profile unscreened keystone jack is a reduced size toolless
termination RJ45 socket. The reduced size allows for multiple cable entry
directions to be accommodated when this jack is mounted in a standard
depth back box. This permits many mounting options including flush
shutters at the outlet as well as more common angled shutter used with
keystone jacks. A choice of compatible patch panel frames with either 16
or 24 port density in both black and chrome are available. The low profile
design allows this jack to fit in the Excel 0.5U 24 port patch panel resulting
in a maximum port density of 48 per 1U. The socket itself is housed in a
high quality fire retardant plastic cast housing, which opens at the rear in
a butterfly manner to reveal the IDC termination points. Once the pairs are
arranged in the cable management cap and trimmed, it is a simple case of
closing the butterfly together to complete the termination.

Excel Cat5e/Cat 6 Unscreened RJ45 Patch Panels
The Excel patch panels comply with the EIA TIA Standard for enhanced
Category 5 and are available in a choice of port density. Each panel offers
a choice of labelling with the option to use the screen printed fields on the
panel fascia or the slide label system which is enclosed with each panel.
Ease of installation is assured with ample rear cable management positions
and IDC blocks allowing use of Krone tooling.

In addition to the standard flat Euromod - 50x25mm and 6c - 22.5x37mm
- is the recommended angled shutter. Available in the standard Euromod
cut out size, this housing is designed to assist with the installation of large
diamater cables in confined spaces such as standard back boxes, multi
100-175 compartment trunking and floor boxes. The design presents the keystone
at 45degrees to both the solid conductor cable being terminated, and
the RJ45 patch cable to be connected to the installed socket. This design
optimises the space available and ensures minimal if any stress is applied
to the cables during installation or use. Each of the shutters and blanking

The Excel Office Range brings style and enhanced aesthetics to any Excel
installation, thanks to its curved plate finish and built in labelling fields.
The portfolio includes Cat5e and Cat6 low profile modules allowing
installation in shallow back boxes and dado trunking. Additionally an angled
keystone shutter is available that accepts the full range Excel Cat5e, Cat6
and Cat6a keystone jacks. The Single and Double Gang faceplates are each
supplied with two half (12.5mm wide) blanks. In the case of the Single Gang
Faceplate this allows a single jack or shutter to be mounted centrally in the
aperture. The two half (12.5mm wide) blanks supplied with the Double Gang
Faceplate allows spacing options for mounting three jacks or shutters in the
faceplate.
The range is available in Office White or Charcoal Grey.

(GOP) Box Plus
The Excel Grid Outlet Position (GOP) Box Plus is available in four versions from 2 Way to 6 Way.
The 2 and 4 way are available with a 25mm flexible conduit fixing point and the 4 and 6 way
are available with a 32mm fixing point. The range has been developed for fixing to the end of
flexible conduit typically where outlets are presented in a grid layout with cable containment
mounted within a raised floor system. The GOP Box then has a degree of flexibility to be
positioned within the radius of the flexible conduit to suit the office layout. 25mm and 32mm
‘L’ Brackets are available to fix the other end of the flexible conduit to the floor slab. GOP Boxes
are typically then attached to the underside of the desk, the flexible conduit passing through
the floor tile via a grommet.
These Plus versions are enhanced with cable tie saddles adjacent to the conduit fixing point
to accept either nylon of hook and loop ties. This permits the cable to be secured if required.
Additionally the GOP box has a hole at each end of the upper case to accept self-tap screws
for fixing to adaptor plates or bespoke brackets. Supplied with the GOP Boxes are black rubber
blanks for the un-used 6c apertures. The 2 way is supplied with 1 blank, the 4 way is supplied
with 2 blanks and the 6 way with 4 blanks. The blanks are also available separately.
The flexible conduit fixing hole is slotted to aid cable installation. As the flexible conduit
hole is part of the jack mounting metal work it ensures easy termination of the outlet while
maintaining the cable management. The base has two fixing holes for mounting where
required. The two parts of the box are assembled with a single machine screw. The flexible
conduit is sold separately.

Multimode can use the less expensive LED and VCSEL light source to transmit
the signal. This is referred to as ‘overfilled’ as the source is broad and floods the
modes (and some of the cladding, hence overfilled). The core is manufactured
with a graded index. This means that the central light path is ‘slower’ than the
outer paths, which drastically reduces modal dispersion which is one of the
limiting factors for the performance of multimode.
Singlemode requires a laser to transmit the signal along a single path. Lasers
offer a high powered signal that can be transmitted for greater distances.
However, the active equipment is a higher price than that of multimode.
The fibre core comprises of a core and a cladding.
The cladding is then covered by a primary coating.
The core is the medium that the light is transmitted
along. The cladding is part of the manufacture of
the glass. Typically, the cladding is of a consistant Primary
size for multimode and singlemode; namely 125µm. Coating

The cables are constructed around a silica gel filled tube containing up to 24
colour coded 250um buffered 62.5/125um or 50/125um Multimode or 9/125um

Loose Tube Fibre - Single Sheath Rodent Protected SWA Armoured
The steel wire armoured cables are suitable for direct burial and the most demanding of
installations. Available in OM1, OM2 and OS2 these cables are constructed from standard
single loose tube cables from which are then packed into a flexible but strong fibreglass
waterblocking strength member. An internal sheath of Black Low Smoke Zero Halogen
material is then applied, a rip cord is inserted under this sheath to ease cable stripping.
Lengths of steel wire armouring are then applied and an oversheath of Black Low
Smoke Zero Halogen is added.
