Jobs in the Film Industry are there for those who network, are resource and are focused, inspirational, leaders.
Once a lm or a TV show job ends, a person who is equally trained in digital marketing production as they are
in lm production can use their skills to create long-term, on-going marketing jobs that use similar creative and
storytelling talents.
The Digital Skills Workforce Gap requires diverse talents among adaptable workers. In between lms and TV
projects, a graduate of The Institute of F.I.L.M.S. can demonstrate their equal talent in marketing production.

Brad Hall, president of Entertain-
mentCareers.Net, says that as of
February “we are back to the
exact same job flow we had one
year prior (to the pandemic).”

Some say the COVID era has reaffirmed their commitment to making it. “In some ways, it
strengthened me as a person. I’m more resilient,” says Thomas Jankowski, who picked up gigs
doing uniquely pandemic-era work, including tech support for online screenings and as a
production assistant charged with driving and sanitizing equipment; he also recently landed a
full-time role as an agency assistant.

And while her pilot may be on ice, Diana Romero, a
screenwriter, has recently written for a web series and is looking to be staffed on a show:
“This pandemic did actually show me that this is exactly where I want to be.”

                                                                                             Businessweek, May 26, 2021

Now, though, more than a year
into a pandemic, the future of
entertainment seems clearer. Pop
culture has moved online—for
everyone.

Streaming services, already a major priority, fast became the only way most people got their film and TV fixes. Netflix
Inc. added 26 million customers in the first half of 2020, a record for new subscribers. And so media companies set aside
legacy businesses and learned how to stream.

The globalization of the movie business is a sign of what’s to come for TV as well. International markets contributed 83%
of Netflix’s new sign-ups in 2020 and now account for more than 60% of its user base. It will be only another year or
two before African, European, and Middle Eastern customers outnumber those in the U.S. and Canada. Disney+, HBO Max,
and Amazon.com Inc. are expanding their international streaming operations as well. India already accounts for a third
of Disney+ subscribers, thanks in large part to the unique inclusion there of cricket, a national obsession. Disney
is hoping to use its formula in India—a mix of sports, original series, and low prices—to expand its reach across South
Asia.

As American media companies look abroad for growth, they’re also bringing the stories they make there back home.
Netflix is investing billions of dollars in programming in more than a dozen languages, and consumption of these shows
is soaring everywhere.

MovieMaker magazine, January 2021

While NY and Los Angeles are
consistently ranked high among
cities, three other cities in Florida
and Georgia are also listed.
St. Petersburg, FL
St. Petersburg pulled in 15 feature films in the last year, most with budgets under a million. Two bigger projects in the
area were Lady of the Manor, starring Justin Long, Judy Greer, Melanie Lynskey and Ryan Phillippe, and Fear of Rain,
which starred Harry Connick Jr. and Katherine Heigl and filmed downtown.

Since Florida lacks a film incentive program, the St. Pete Clearwater Film Commission smartly devised a cash rebate
incentive in 2005. The program, which has helped more than 1,800 production companies, pays up to 10% on qualified
expenditures in Pinellas County’s 24 municipalities.

The region has some of the most gorgeous beaches in the country, and with 361 days of sunshine, you’ll have ample
opportunity to enjoy them. It also offers skilled crews and plenty of production facilities and equipment rental houses.
And its embrace of film includes the forward- thinking, worldly Sunscreen Film Festival, which celebrated its 15th year in
2020.

Another positive: The state’s nonprofit industry agency, Film FL, requires all productions applying for a permit in the
region to read and adhere as closely as possible to its recommendations for clean and healthy sets.

Miami, FL
Miami is the home of 2020’s top-grossing film, Bad Boys for Life. Okay, 2020 was not a
normal year, but Miami’s reputation as a vibrant film center spans decades. Endlessly
photogenic, with gorgeous weather almost always, Florida is just a few rich tax incentives
away from posing a major challenge to neighboring Georgia.

The state currently has a two-tiered grant system with a maximum of $100,000 for
Miami- Dade County projects of $1 million or more and $50,000 for projects of $500,000
to $1 million. And FilMiami smooths the permitting process with a one-stop system across
several jurisdictions.

“Miami has been a playground for indie filmmakers for a few simple reasons. In a city less
saturated with productions, people tend to be generous with their venues, rentals, excite-
ment, and tolerance for filmmakers,’” says Miami-born artist-moviemaker Jillian Mayer.
Miami-Dade County has a wide array of locations, but also a kind of light — especially in
2017 Best Picture winner Moonlight — that you can’t capture anywhere else in America.

                                           Atlanta
A 30% tax credit, great weather, excellent crews and a slew of blockbusters
have made Atlanta a force for years. But the home of The Walking Dead,
Watchmen, and much of the Marvel and DC cinematic universes is also an
innovator when it comes to the industry’s fight against COVID-19.

Tyler Perry was one of the first high-profile moviemakers to prove that filming
could safely resume when he quarantined cast and crew this past summer,
and even used private flights to ensure safe travel to his own Tyler Perry
Studios. The Georgia Film Office also issues a short, jargon-free guide to
                                           shooting safely.

Atlanta has continued to thrive as a film center during COVID-19 — and even
grow. In fact, Pinewood Atlanta Studios rebranded in 2020 as Trilith, a
location that includes a small town with its own homes, restaurants, parks,
and schools — as well as production facilities within walking distance.
Atlanta isn’t just home to big productions, but indie ones, too — and Film
Impact Georgia provides a twice-a-year grant program for making shorts.
