OCA Virtual Time Trial Series
 Ontario Cycling Association

Welcome
Welcome to the OCA Virtual Time Trial Series taking place on the FulGaz virtual platform. The winter season
can be challenging when it comes to finding motivation to train. While it’s too cold outside for outdoor riding
and racing, we wanted to provide a continued sense of community through promoting virtual riding and racing
opportunities ranging from club to national level events. In addition to this, the OCA is organizing four of our
own Virtual Time Trial Races to allow 2021 members the chance to race real roads and try out a realistic virtual
riding and racing platform.

From the FulGaz website at www.fulgaz.com: “FulGaz features over 2,000 hours of high-qualify 4k content
that’s been hand picked from our amazing contributors featuring many of the best places you’ll ever ride. We
believe that when you’re riding inside, only the best ride experience will do. That’s why we’ve dedicated
countless hours to perfecting each and every ride on FulGaz and testing it with our team of Ride Engineers.
Enjoy realistic and stunning virtual rides anytime on iOS (iPhone and iPad), Apple TV, Android and Windows
devices.”

Most other virtual platforms provide users with a very digital or video-game like experience. FulGaz provides its
users with the experience of riding real roads, with video and course profiles mapped out by cyclists, for
cyclists. When travelling, outdoor rides, and training camps are not a possibility, you can experience riding
roads and taking in scenery from around the world in the comfort and safety of your own home. Using the
FulGaz platform, the Virtual Time Trial Series will take place on the following dates and courses:

January 30, 2021 Gatineau Park – Quebec, Canada
February 20, 2021 Laguna Seca Circuit Race – California, USA
March 13, 2021 Great Ocean Road – Victoria, Australia
March 27, 2021 Elite Men’s ITT – UCI Worlds 2019 – Yorkshire, England

how old you WILL BE as of December 31st 2021. In order to keep things fair, we ask users to please be honest
when inputting data into FulGaz, especially your height and weight as this will impact your performance.

Connecting with FulGaz
If you don’t already have a FulGaz account, here’s what you will need for this race:

TRAINER
You can do this race on practically any indoor trainer, but it’s recommended to use a smart trainer or power
meter that can talk to your computer and relay wattage data. Even if you don’t have one of those, a regular
magnetic or fluid trainer will work, however you will need a Bluetooth or Ant+ speed sensor for your bike and
an ANT+ stick for your computer to pick up the data. If you have a heartrate monitor and cadence sensor,
you’re welcome to use it to show how hard you are working.

FULGAZ
To download the software needed, click on Getting started with FulGaz | FulGaz, download the software (OS
specific) and register for the service. There is typically a limited two-week free trial, however we have
partnered with Cycling Canada to obtain an extended trial period of 4 weeks, stay tuned for the promo code
which is set to rollout about 10 days before out first event. This discount code will allow you to register for any
number of rides and races on the platform, including the OCA Virtual TT Series.

FULGAZ PRE-RIDE
In order to get the full experience out of using FulGaz, it is highly recommended to download the app in
advance and practice pre-riding some of the courses. Upon setting yourself up on the FulGaz app, you can then
find and ride routes such as those within our race calendar. For instance, search for “Gatineau Park” and pre-
ride the course for our first Time Trial taking place on January 30th. If you are unable to download the FulGaz
application but want to checkout a preview of the courses, you can also search for the courses listed in order
by name by visiting The Rides | FulGaz.

Any questions please contact the OCA at 416-855-1717 Page 5 of 8

Gatineau Park – Quebec, Canada
We begin our TT series with more of a “local” ride just across the provincial border in Gatineau Park located
near Chelsea, Quebec. Ride the cycling paradise of the Gatineau Provincial Park, the Canadian capital region’s
conservation park while enjoying Canadian shield rock, lakes, rivers and other scenery. This course takes you up
the Gatineau Parkway and Champlain Parkway to the Etienne-Brule lookout with some beautiful forests and
fall colours along the way.

Laguna Seca Circuit Race – California, USA
Join this circuit race to experience race video coverage taking place on the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey,
California. Indoor training doesn’t have to be boring. Your TT result will not benefit from “riding in the bunch”
(drafting etc) but that doesn’t mean you have to give up the bunch racing experience entirely. We want you to
have the opportunity to view an exciting video that races around the 3.5km circuit a total of 10 times with
cornering and bunch race tactics taking place right before your eyes during the Sea Otter Classic circuit race.

Great Ocean Road – Victoria, Australia
Replicating what was to be the beginning of the 2021 Women’s World Tour Season, we enjoy the seaside views
of the “Great Ocean Road” in Victoria, Australia. Some of the most breathtaking views with constant
undulations creating both larger and smaller climbs make this an incredible road to ride. This course has been a
part of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Classic in past years, and now it’s your time to experience it for
yourself.

Elite Men’s ITT – UCI Worlds 2019 – Yorkshire, England
The final destination of our Virtual Time Trial Series “World Tour” brings the Elite Men’s Individual Time Trial
UCI World’s course from Northallerton to Harrogate right to your living room. There’s lots of rain on this course
video and it may be a bit longer than your typical Ontario TT course, but serves as a fantastic finale to our
Virtual Time Trial Series. Enjoy the typical Yorkshire weather on this wet ride and experience thousands of
spectators standing roadside cheering you on through your final kilometers.
