From the desk of the Business Manager:
Thank You: Thank you for your support during this challenging time. We keep everyone in our prayers, and we hope to gather
together without restrictions soon. Our ministries have been meeting virtually or outdoors during this past year. Many activities of
our ministries have taken place while complying with Covid regulations.
Parish Projects: In the past few years, we expressed our needs for many parish improvements. We are thankful for the
donations from parishioners for the Parking Lots and the Madison Street Canopy. This past year we received two very generous
bequests of $525,000 and $600,000. With the parishioner donations for parish projects and the bequest funds, we are able to
complete some of the projects on our list of needs. These bequest funds are to be used for Capital improvements on our campus;
they are not intended for yearly budgeted operating costs.
On Monday, May 3, construction will begin on the Madison Street Canopy. During this project, we will also be installing an
ADA compliant automatic door opener. Construction of the canopy and entrance improvements will take a few weeks to complete.
When entering and exiting the church, please use Door #8 which is the door on the east end of the building used for the chapel
entrance.
The other major project being completed is the repaving of the parking lots. This will begin in June sometime after school is
dismissed for the summer. The pavement replacement has been approved by the Diocese already. We will keep you up to date on
the temporary changes for parking and entering the church building.
Some of the monies have already been used for: Asbestos abatement and new flooring in some of the classrooms, new roof on
the Social Center, and some landscaping. Some of the other improvements being considered at this time: church air conditioning,
some window replacements around campus, and the Social Center restroom remodeling.
Goodbye: Kirsten Currie, who has been serving as our Music Director for the past seven years, has decided to make a career
change. Our best wishes and prayers go out to her in her future endeavors. Thank you for your ministry at St. Pius X. We were
truly blessed to have her talents shared with us.
Memorial Paver Bricks: Final call for our spring paver brick order. Orders must be received by Monday, May 10.
Once again, thank you for your support of St. Pius X Catholic Community. I will keep my prayers going for the end of this
pandemic. If you have any questions, please give me a call at the Parish Office: 630-627-4526 X208.

REFLEXION

WHO’S AT THE DOOR? A REFLECTION FROM OUR LIVES TODAY — We are living the circumstances in which
history is being written. Into this roil, I ask the question: Who or what is knocking at our safe and secure door? Is it the wolf that
wants entry? The image of the unwanted wolf at the door is legendary in folktale and deep within our psyches and souls. In the
Gospel life—there is the One knocking…the great story of faith that Christ always arrives at the door of our hearts—there is no
door knob on the outside where The Shepherd stands ready to enter—only we can open the door. Will we? This day of reflection
draws upon the trans historical and transcultural span of shaping myths about the undesirable at the door pushing itself in. We
return to the profound, children’s stories of “The Three Little Pigs” or “Little Red Riding Hood” to glean insight for our fearsome
time and the sacred scriptures that speak of the door, the knock and who will open it for the One who longs to be with us. (lunch is
included) — Facilitator: Avis Clendenden is currently coordinator for liturgical and spiritual ministries at Mercy Circle in
Chicago. She is also professor emerita of religious studies at Saint Xavier University in Chicago. Avis offers retreats and days of
reflection that integrate insights from depth psychology with pathways to spiritual life and growth.
