Spring has Sprung and we are ready for some summer
sunshine. What a great time to think about trying
something new and exciting. We sincerely hope everything
in this catalog will actually be available as stated, but due
to the pandemic, unfortunately, some activities might still
be on hold. PLEASE give us a call to double check if you see
                 something that interests you.
In the meantime, come join us Monday through Friday
from 11:30 – 12:30 for some great food and a friendly
smile at our drive through meal pickup. If you and your
friends are 60+, stop by, fill out a couple of forms and pick
up a meal for a donation to our meals program. In person
fellowship in our Friendship Café dining room will begin
                    again as soon as possible.
Check out the catalog to find a fun and engaging activity
to participate in to keep your mind, body and spirit
revved up. Whether it is a class to learn something
new, a fun group to join to meet some new friends, an
exercise activity to get your heart pumping, visiting with
neighbors, or volunteering in one of many ways that
help us continue to provide the wonderful programs and
services for our community, we will find a place for you to
become part of our Dietert family.
Dorothy, our Club Ed Coordinator has done a fabulous job
of providing lots of great options for you.
If you or someone you love is experiencing cognitive
decline issues, please let us help you prepare for the
                         journey ahead.
And, if you or someone you know are 60 years and above,
homebound, and need a hot lunch every weekday, give us a
call to see if we can get that delivered to you. We are here
                             for you!
                        HAPPY SUMMER
We look forward to seeing YOU here SOON!!

           * Coronavirus Vaccines, What is the Truth?
                         Instructor: Mike McGinnis Ph.D.
The Covid-19 vaccination is designed to do a number of important things. It can
help prevent an infection; it can help minimize a serious COVID-19 infection; it
can enhance herd immunity; and it can help prime your immune system to rapidly
recognize a coronavirus exposure in the future. Different Covid-19 vaccines
work differently in the body, but none of them provide 100% protection. The best
vaccines provide 90-95% protection against infection or developing moderate
to severe/critical COVID-19. The question that everyone faces is, “should I get
the vaccine for Covid-19, or not?”. The purpose of this presentation is to explain
what vaccines are, how they work, safety concerns, and both the strengths
and weaknesses of being vaccinated with them based upon actual scientific
information without a political spin on the information. This presentation is built
around the concept, “just the facts” and you decide what to do.

              *Biblical Manuscript Encounter
                       Instructor: Jon Lusher
Our presentation is based upon a 250 year old Torah scroll, the
unaltered first five books of the Jewish and Christian Bibles.
This scroll is exactly as all have been for thousands of years,
having the exact same number of letters since first written.
We have several other documents, papyrus fragments and
artifacts that show the reliability of Biblical continuity and
through the ages. Presentation of these artifacts and documents
will concentrate on their consistency, great art and adherence
to Scriptural insistence that none are changed so much as a
letter over time. Insight into their writing, construction and
preservation will come from close contact with them. As
historical items, they have beauty and craftsmanship due to the
most important spiritual documents of the ages.

could have actually happened at a radio station during that

time and what the difference is now compared to yester year.

           *Storytelling: A Human Experience
                Instructor: Kathleen Hudson Ph.D.
We create narratives of our lives as we live them, telling
ourselves and others our stories. Storytelling is basic to the
human experience, and we can discover ourselves in the stories
we tell. Storytelling is not just one activity among many; it is
the central thread of being human. Neuroscience points to this
through scientific discoveries about the brain, literature shows
us the stories of the ages, and our community is a place to share
our stories even as we create a community in the sharing.

*Hemingway’s Cuba
                    Instructor: William Woods, Ph.D.
When famed Nobel Prize recipient Ernest Hemingway left
his beloved Lookout Farm, Finca Vigia, in Cuba on July 25,
1960, he had no idea he would never again see the place he
called home for over twenty years, his sanctuary where he had
composed The Old Man and the Sea, A Moveable Feast and
Islands in the Stream. The reasons for the abrupt departure
remain mysterious. Some have suggested Hemingway had
grown disenchanted with the brutal tactics favored by the
revolutionary Fidel Castro. Others say Hemingway was
ordered home by the US State Department for his own safety.
More likely, the departure was carefully orchestrated by his
concerned wife, Mary, who knew the great writer was battling
crippling depression, anxiety and alcoholism. This lecture will
focus on Hemingway's final days in Cuba and include a brief
description of a recent trip by the speaker and his Schreiner
University students to see Hemingway's Cuban house and his
                   other famous literary haunts.
