AUTUMN 2018 - The Coronation Hall
Hello and welcome to our new Summer season brochure.
We’ve made some great new friends this year, and we want everyone to feel welcome
and part of the Coro this Autumn. We’ve developed a hands-on event UlverSTEM
to bring education and employers together looking at our young population’s
opportunities in our fabulous town.
There’s lots of lively fun from the Forbidden Nights boys, a fabulous tribute to Eric &
Ern, and the Circus of Horrors bring their brand new show to our stage.
Comedy continues with Chris Ramsey, hilarious American Rich Hall and our locally
produced Friday Night Live!
It’s ‘Girl Power’ as the Spice Girls Show comes to town and the Russian Ballet
perform the brilliant Swan Lake. Events for the smaller folk are on too, MEGASLAM
Wrestling returns, Joe Purdy has not one but two shows, there’s Disgusting Songs
for Revolting Children (enjoyed by adults too!) and for the really small folk we have
a beautiful performance LUNA. The ladies of LipService return to help us giggle and a
brand-new show from Sonya Moorby Feral asks questions of our wild side.
Christmas! There’s a jolly Buddy Holly tribute, Santa’s Party show, Christmas Market
and festive events, Carols at the Coro, UVHS show, Let’s Dance and Houghton Weavers.
There are three local company performances from Ulverston Amateur & Operatic
Society, Ulverston Outsiders and Ulverston Pantomime Society.
All this in addition to our usual community events, coffee mornings, bingo, bowling,
Country Market, U3A classes and Bym Bam.

We have included a more comprehensive list of events in the centre
pages of the programme. Please contact us if you require any further
information or if you would like to book the hall for your celebrations.

7.30pm - £16 – Suitable 10yrs+

Britain’s favourite literary lunatics are back with their cult Brontë spoof
Withering Looks. In the 200th anniversary of Emily’s birth, the classic comic
duo couldn’t resist dusting off their crinolines and flattering bonnets to
sit at rained-lashed windows in
a pale and decorative manner.
Come share in the silliness too!
Withering Looks takes a look
at the lives and works of the
Brontë sisters, well, two of
them, Anne’s just popped out!
Who is the Brontë’s mysterious
neighbour, Mr Moorcock of
Ravaged Heath House? Who
should Cathy marry, Heathcliff
or David Niven? Withering Looks
won a Manchester Evening
News Theatre Award and the
Critics’ award for Comedy at the
Edinburgh Festival.

THEATRE Feral - By Sonya Moorhead
                                                               7.30pm - £10

Ever wondered if you missed your chance to be wild?
Sonya has been spinning a lot of plates recently; she’s good at it but she’s
definitely not the untamed woman she thought she’d be. Sometimes
feeling like a feral beast backed into a corner, no escaping social expectation,
fearing she’s missed her chance.
Feral asks why women are taking on more ‘mental load’ than ever before.
Harnessing live music by The Greyhounds, storytelling and the odd party
trick, Feral tells
an intimate story
with universal
application,
empowering
audiences to make
wilder choices.

Theatre Hullabaloo Presents - LUNA FAMILY

1.30pm & 4pm

An enchanting theatre experience for 2-5 year olds and their families
about friendship, the moon and being brave in the dark.
Luna is bored in the sky with no-one
to play with. She is surrounded by
stars, who never quite understand her
– it’s very lonely being the only moon.
One night, she spots a young boy
hiding from the shadows in his
bedroom. Billy and his favourite toy,
Pig, don’t like the dark and hide from
the scary shadows.
Luna slides down the sky to make
friends with Billy and they go on an
adventure of LIGHT and DARK to help overcome his fear of night time.
With original live music, this captivating play about friendship and
bravery is a wonderful introduction to theatre for young children.

COMEDY Rich Hall’s Hoedown Comedy Night
                                                              7.30pm - £17

There has never been a better time to be an American comedian in the UK.
Hall’s dismantling of the tenuous relationship between two countries is as
freewheeling and deadly accurate as ever.
His BBC Four documentaries, and BBC
Radio 4 series have built him a new
legion of followers, as has appearances
on Have I Got News For You and QI.
But if you’ve only ever seen Hall on TV,
you’ve short-changed yourself.
The Hoedown begins as a withering
dissection of Trump’s America, but ends
up being a celebration of Americana.
There’s stand-up, improvised ballads,
cracking good musicianship, and
ultimately a hilarious, foot-stomping,
shit-kicking good time to be had by all.
Even if you don’t own a hoe.
