RESIDUE AND RESISTANCE SAFE FOODS THROUGH BIOLOGICALS
The Green Revolution has seen huge increases in agricultural productivity driven by inputs of
chemical fertilizers and chemical pesticides. But the cost has been high. Chemicals have led
to pollution of our soil, ground water, surface water, vegetation, and dangerous levels of
chemical residue in our food-chain of crops, fruits & vegetables, milk and poultry – leading to
scourge of cancer, genetic defects, mental deficiencies and other diseases.
Chemical pesticides indiscriminately kill even friendly microbes and insects, which play an
important role in the healthy growth and cropping of plants. The agri-biosphere is a complex
symbiotic world of microbes and insects which play a natural role in making nutrition
available to the plants, pollination, disease resistance and control of pest population.
The farmers who apply these chemicals, and their families living in farming villages, are the
worst affected by usage of chemicals; as also the handlers of chemical stocks.
Long and indiscriminate usage of chemicals has resulted in the pests developing Resistance
or immunity to these chemicals. So, farmers are forced to apply higher quantities and more
frequent applications of the chemicals to get the same produce – thereby increasing their
costs and the associated pollution.
As customers become aware, they are demanding chemical-free safe foods. Governments
are legislating Minimum Residue Levels or MRL of chemicals in foods, and even banning
larger and larger numbers of chemical inputs.

CROP GUARD, a consortium of naturally occurring entomopathogenic fungi, formulated as a
liquid for foliar spray application, is highly effective for the control of waxy insects and sucking

MODE OF ACTION
Verticillium lecanii : The spores of this fungus when come in contact with the cuticle (skin) of
target insects, they germinate and grow directly through the cuticle to the inner body of their
Insect-Pest management host. Verticilliumlecanii proliferates throughout the insect's body, draining the insect of nutrients,
and eventually killing it in around 48-72 hours.
Verticillium lecanii fungus produces several toxins like bassianolide and other insecticidal
toxins such as dipicolinic acid, which infect aphids, whiteflies, scale insects and cause mortality.
Beauveria bassiana: Beauveria bassiana conidia infect the insect skin by penetrating and lysing
(with enzymes) the epicuticle. Once inside the insect, it grows and releases toxins called
Beauvericin and Oosporin that weaken the host's immune system. Eventually the entire body
cavity is filled with fungal mass. Insects, before succumbing to fungal infection, exhibit various
symptoms including restlessness, cessation of feeding and loss of coordination.

by using high volume spray to cover both side of leaves. Repeat application at 7-10 days interval or as
required.
