Concrete Base Requirements
Concrete Perfection
Garages don’t have floors, so they need a concrete plinth to sit on.

Optional Extras
Double Glazing
Double glazing is highly recommended for a Garage.
Due to the construction of the 3 tier wall, it is the perfect
specification to hold a double glazed casement unit. The
benefits from double glazing ensure that your building
maintains it’s insulation factor that comes from the breather
cavity within the walls. For Garages we recommend 3 sizes of
Upvc Casement Windows.

Siberian Larch Cladding
As standard, Gillies and Mackay use
Scandinavian Pine (Redwood) which is
commendable for it’s durability and long
lasting life span. It does however need
preserving. For Garages, we buy this timber
tanalised - which means it’s pressure treated
with an anti-fungal treatment, which is what
gives it a green colour tint.
Siberian Larch is an entirely different timber.
Larch does not require the additional
treatment of tanalising. It can withstand its
lifespan without being treated (however we
do recommend a primer of some sort to
protect it from UV damage). Siberian Larch
will weather to a slivering colour over time
but starts out as a yellow/gold.

Close Board and Strap Cladding
This cladding is traditionally referred to as the Highland
Cladding. This is because it’s typically used for buildings
which are constructed in the Scottish Highlands. The
durability of this cladding is hardy and meant for harsh
Scottish weather which is aided by how it’s profiled.
The boards are rough sawn - not dressed (smooth) and are
fixed vertically, beside each other with a 50mm strip.

Optional Extras
Bitumen Shingled Roof
Bitumen Shingles are typically used on our
Summer Houses as a decorative roofing
option. They carry a 15 year guarantee and a
life expectancy of many more. They can be
requested by planning depts if you need to
go through the planning process.

                                                    Insulate and Line
                                                    Due to the 3 tier wall specification, the
                                                    Garage construction is already set up for
                                                    Insulating and lining. The 95mm x 45mm
                                                    frame can accommodate rigid board
                                                    insulation of 70mm or Knauff Omni Fit
                                                    Fibre insulation of 100mm. Thereafter we
                                                    offer either 16mm V’d Lining or 12.5mm
                                                    Plasterboard (requires additional decorative
                                                    work).
                                                    Insulating your Garage would be advisable
                                                    if you plan to use the space for more than
                                                    storage and keeping your vehicle in.

Extended Canopies/Carports
It’s often requested that we incorporate a
