                Registration materials for readers and non-readers will be available
                        in the Children’s Room from May 29 through July 31.
       Children who reach their reading goals by August 15 will receive a reading certificate,
    a FREE book, some coupons and be entered into a drawing for a fifty-dollar gift certificate!
   After reading the first book, each child can have his/her log stamped to receive a book bag!
  To encourage children to read throughout the summer, we will have a weekly drawing at each
 branch for special prizes from restaurants, bowling, etc. Every week of summer will be assigned
  a special drawing prize. Children may enter once a week if a new book has been read. Prizes
  will be available ONLY the week to which they have been assigned. A full list of prizes can be
 found at your library. To enter, take your reading log to your Library to show that you have read
 a book. We will stamp your log and enter your name into that week’s drawing. Entry for weekly
      drawings stops when a child turns in the reading log for final prizes. From August 16 to
         August 31, children turning in their completed book logs will receive a certificate.
            Please Note: Space is limited for each program, please call to register.
  Programs will start on time. Participants should be punctual, as latecomers may not be seated.

SUMMER STORYTIME FOR TODDLERS OR PRESCHOOLERS
Toddlertime – for children from walking through 2 years old accompanied by an adult. Sessions
are very informal and include short books, simple rhymes, songs, and fingerplays. Sessions last
20 to 25 minutes.
Preschool – for children about 3 to 5 years old. Children may attend without an adult who stays in
the library, although adults are welcome. Sessions last 30 minutes.

SUMMER STORYTIME FOR BABIES
Lapsits – for babies from birth through crawling accompanied by an adult. Lapsits last 15 to 20
minutes. Lapsits are very informal and include board books, simple rhymes, songs, and fingerplays.

SUMMER FUNTIME PAJAMA STORYTIME
For children 3 and up and their families. Children will hear stories and participate in songs and
movement.
Storytimes are meant to be fun and non-stressful for children. Because children’s chronological
ages do not always coincide with their emotional ages, older or younger children may attend with
permission of library staff. There is limited space in storytime. No groups please.

STUCK ON THE LIBRARY
Help us kick off Summer Reading at Jones Creek by getting “stuck” on the
library! We need your help to fill in our sticker collage. Stop by the children's
room any time between 2 & 6 PM to help add color coded stickers to our wall mosaic to make a
cool picture! Ages 5 & up. No registration necessary.

THE HARVEY RABBIT AND FRIENDS SHOW
Join Harvey Rabbit, Cecil the Orangutan, Miss Laura, and Mr. Tim as they bring fun and mayhem to
the library with ventriloquism, puppetry, music, magic, comedy, and audience participation. It just
wouldn’t be summer without a visit from this gang! Ages 2 and up. About 45 minutes.

LEARN TO LINE DANCE
Have you ever seen people line dancing and wish you could join in? Now’s your chance to learn
simple line dances, such as The Cupid Shuffle, The Freeze, and The Cha Cha Slide. Ages 5-11.
Registration is required and limited to 25 children.

Saturday, June 2, 2:30 PM
ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS, SHOOT!
Children will listen to The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors by Drew Daywalt. Afterwards, each child
will make a rock, paper, scissors dice game. The children will then play Rock, Paper, Scissors
using either the dice or their hands. Ages 6-11. Registration is required and limited to 20
children.

FIVE GREEN AND SPECKLED FROGS
                 Ribbit! After hearing the stories Five Green and Speckled Frogs by Priscilla
                 Burris, and Too Many Frogs by Sandy Asher, each child will make an action
                 craft to act out the
                 speckled frogs story. Ages 5-8. Registration is required and limited to 15
                 children.

POTATO BEAUTY PAGEANT!
We’re going to listen to Rot, the Cutest in the World! by Ben Clanton. It’s the story of a potato who
enters a beauty pageant. Afterwards, each child will be given a real potato to dress up, and we’ll
have our own potato beauty pageant where children can show off their creations! Ages 8-11.
Registration is required and limited to 20 children.

BATON ROUGE BALLET THEATRE’S YOUTH BALLET
Set to the timeless music of Leo Delibes, Coppélia is a comic story ballet, set hundreds of years ago
in a festive Hungarian village. Follow the antics of Swanilda and Franz, two young lovebirds, who
quarrel over the beautiful maiden in the window of the local toymaker’s shop. Havoc ensues as
Swanilda and her friends sneak into Dr. Coppelius’ toyshop to discover life-size, dancing toys, and
the truth about the girl in the window. Ages 5 & up. About 40 minutes. Please register.

Want to make your very own musical instrument? Children will listen to Can you Dance the
Boogaloo? by Alice Lickens, and then each child will make and decorate their own kazoo instrument

SPARKLY CLOTHESPIN CRITTERS
Butterflies, Bees, and Dragonflies, oh my! After hearing poetry and facts from Cricket in the Thicket
by Carol Murray, children will select and make a sparkly clothespin critter magnet. Please dress for
a mess. Ages 6-10. Registration is required and limited to 20 children.

ERIC HERMAN PRESENTS COMICAL MUSIC!
Eric Herman's concerts for kids are bursting with comedy, creativity, audience participation, and
outrageously fun songs, including his YouTube hits (over 50 million views), "The Elephant Song,"
"Dance Like an Animal" and "Blackbeard, Bluebeard and Redbeard." Ages 3-11. Please register.

BLOBFISH SQUISH
           Have you ever heard of the gelatinous Blobfish? It was voted the world's ugliest
           animal! Come hear facts about this interesting critter, along with the story, Blobfish
           Throws a Party by Miranda Paul. We’ll also make a squishy blobfish stress ball. Ages
           8-11. Registration is required and limited to 20 children.

LIVING WITHOUT SIGHT: HOW BLIND PEOPLE SEE IN OTHER WAYS
It’s important for children to learn about physical challenges like blindness in order to build a sense of
understanding and compassion for others. Join us for a program about blindness! Mary Haupt, blind
since birth, will present information about how it feels to be blind, and tools that she uses to help her
“see” and function in the world. Ages 5 & up. Please register.

DAISY THE READING PIG – PIG OUT ON READING
Farmer Minor tells stories about Daisy's formative years (all true) with Farmer & Mrs. Minor, and
shares many of her favorite pig books. Daisy probably has the world's largest collection of pig books.
Daisy is the "most famous pig in the whole world!" About 45 minutes. All ages. Please register.

Cangelosi Dance Project presents their annual summer dance performance, with
choreography by Kris Cangelosi. It will be performed by her company in a variety of jazz,

Fish Wish by Bob Barner is the story we’ll be reading for this fun activity. After
the story, each child will make a simple fish bowl craft. Toddlers-3 years old.

DIGERIDOO DOWN UNDER
This is a high-energy, Australia-themed show that combines music, culture, puppetry, comedy,
character building, storytelling and audience participation. The didgeridoo, usually a hollow tree
trunk, has been played by Aboriginal Australians for at least 1,500 years, and is known for its
otherworldly sound. But, DDU is more than music. It is interactive, educational, motivational and
super fun! Ages 2-11 with families. Please register.

Singer-songwriter-keyboardist-one-man-band AND children's author, Rick Kelley, presents "Don't
Just Sit There. . . Read Something", a fun filled, extremely interactive music program! The
program is designed to get kids and families excited about reading and developing a passion for
learning and books. This event includes singalongs, dance-alongs, comedy, movement, and even

Members of the Louisiana Capital Area Obedience Club will be at the Jones Creek Regional Branch
