      THE 123rd MACKENZIE HIGHLAND A & P SHOW

    To continue in the tradition of past years and accentuated at our
  Centennial Show, you and your family are encouraged to wear the
traditional highland dress - the kilt, which will add colour and style to
  this annual event. Our President, Mr David Taylor and some of the
committee will be wearing the kilt, so if possible, join them. If you are
not fortunate enough to own a highly prized kilt, male members of the
   family can wear a tartan tie or tam-o'-shanter and the females are
                   encouraged to wear a tartan skirt.

                 COMPLETION OF ENTRY FORMS
• Refer to section for fees. All entries are inclusive of GST.
• All entry forms must be signed and entry fees calculated correctly
for entries to be accepted.
• Gate passes will be given as follows: Adults – one adult gate pass
after payment of $10 or more in entry fees. Children (ages 5-15) - one
child gate pass per child entered.
• Entry forms received that have not been signed, or in which entry
fees have been calculated incorrectly, will be returned. This applies to
all entrants, including Members who have not paid their annual
subscription but who have calculated their entry fees on the Member’s
fees.
• The Committee will in no case consider any entry valid unless the
correct fees are paid at time of making it.

                       DOG OWNERS
The owner of all dogs entering the show-grounds must be able to
produce a dosing certificate if requested to do so. This is to show
      the dog has been dosed for sheep measles/hydatis.

                         MEMBERSHIP
Membership privileges include reduced entry fees in some sections
and free admission to the annual show for 2 adults and family under
15 years of age. Annual Family Membership is $30. Life
membership is $450. Annual Subscriptions are due by 1 March of
the current year. No membership form required.

FOOD
The rights to sell all types of food on the grounds are let by tender
                at the discretion of the Committee.

                           TRADE SPACE
Trade Space Applications are to be completed online by visiting
www.showdayonline.com. Online applications preferred.
Applications close 28 February 2021. The committee will
endeavour to honour all site requests but reserve the right to site
displays at their discretion. The committee has the right to refuse
any application.
Trade Display sites are ONLY available in sizes of 6m frontage
x7m depth (14 m is maximum depth i.e. 2 sites) or multiples
thereof. Cost is $100.00 per site. Admission passes are issued on
the basis of ONE per every $100.00 paid for space. Additional
passes may be available at a reduced cost of $10.00 each,
maximum of 1 extra pass per site. Limited power sites are
available at an additional cost of $50.00 per site.
Ribbons will be awarded for the best JJ Ltd Timaru Heavy Trade
Space, Promotional and Craft Displays. Trade Space exhibitors to
be on the grounds by 9.30 a.m. and no trade space displays shall be
removed from the grounds until after 4.00pm without special
order from the Secretary. The site plan is final. Where live cattle
or deer form part of a trade display, the exhibitor is responsible
for:(i) Ensuring all stock have completed all TB testing
requirements as per Animal Health Board testing regulations. (ii)
Ensuring all stock are identified in accordance with current legal
requirements (including NAIT). (iii) In order to meet NAIT
obligations, stock present must be: NAIT tagged and registered
AND recorded in movements by the owners of stock to
Mackenzie A&P Showgrounds, NAIT number 455732- with the
inclusion of dates to/from the event.

     GENERAL CONDITIONS AND REGULATIONS
  “To be read in conjunction with Section conditions and with the
    Rules and By-Laws of the Royal Agricultural Society of N. Z.”
    available on www.ras.org.nz
1. The Society holds records of names of all Members and
Exhibitors and may publish these for the purposes of Show media
reports or promotional purposes at the Society’s discretion. The
Society may take photographs and video images of Members,
Exhibitors, exhibits (including livestock) and the employees, agents
and assistants of any Exhibitor and use this information for reporting
or promotional purposes in any media, at the Society’s discretion.
2. All exhibits shall be at the sole risk of the owner of Exhibitor.
The Society will not under any circumstances hold themselves
responsible for loss, damage, or mis-delivery, detention or delay of
any entries or exhibits in any area (including implements exhibited
at the show).
3. No person shall sell any tobacco, food, drink or any form of
refreshment and raffles to any person on the land of the Society
during any Agricultural and Pastoral Show held by the Society
without the written permission of the Committee.

4. No entries, trade space or implements may be removed from
ground until after 4.00pm without special order from the Secretary.
5. The owner of all dogs entering the show-grounds must be

                      HEALTH AND SAFETY
6. All persons entering the grounds must comply with the Health &
Safety at Work Act 2015 (and subsequent amendments.) Please
abide by the safety rules and signage at the Showgrounds. Follow
instructions from Marshals and Show Officials. Please ensure that
no one enters livestock pens, enclosures or arenas. Do not poke, hit
or irritate animals. Be aware of livestock and vehicular movement.
Please do not stand behind any livestock.
7. IN CASE OF EVACUATION, PLEASE MAKE YOUR WAY
TO ONE OF THE TWO CARPARKS IF THIS IS NOT THE
SOURCE OF HARM.
8. A full copy of the Health and Safety plan is held in the
Secretary’s office along with a map of the grounds, the First Aid
area and fire extinguishers.
9. If attending with small children, it is suggested you write your
cell phone number on their arm so you can be notified quickly.
10. In the event of an earthquake emergency, please follow ALL
instructions given to you by Show staff. Keep clear of all buildings
and structures.
11. All stock must be thoroughly quiet or they will not be admitted.
All animals to be suitably restrained.
12. All exhibitors agree and undertake to exercise reasonable care
in conducting their operation and agree to make good to the Society
any damage caused to cables, pipes or underground structures of any
nature. The exhibitors shall hold sufficient insurance against such
damage. All damage will be the responsibility of the applicant and
all costs will be recovered. All underground cables & pipes will be
marked with a red band; no tent pegs or holes are to be dug or
driven within one metre of marked cables or pipes.
13. All large or dangerous animals shall be contained behind fences
suitable to make sure they cannot escape under any circumstances
and meets and complies with all fencing requirements under New
Zealand Law.
14. Exhibitors of machinery and mechanical equipment of any
description must ensure that it is fully guarded so as to be incapable
of injuring spectators while on display. Tractors and other
machinery demonstrated at work must be attended by a member of
the exhibitor’s staff while working, and must be efficiently
immobilized when not working. Exhibits which are considered by
the Committee to be dangerous, to be excessively noisy, or
undesirable in any way, may be immobilized at the discretion of the
Committee.
                GENERAL FOR ALL EXHIBITORS
15. All exhibits must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor at
the time of entry, and all produce must have been grown by the
exhibitor.
16. Gate passes will be given as follows: Adults – one adult gate

gate pass per child entered.         5

17. Judges may be subject to change due to unforeseen
circumstances.
18. All protests must be in writing and may be entered either before
or after the judges have proceeded to their duties. The person
entering the protest in horses, cattle, and sheep to deposit $50.00,
the deposit to be returned if the protest is sustained. If the protest is
lodged before the judges proceed to their duties, the onus of proof to
rest with the exhibitors, if after the judging is completed, the onus of
proof to rest with the party protesting. No protest will be received
later than one hour after the awards are made and the prize tickets
affixed.
19. Suggestions are welcomed by the Committee from exhibitors
and patrons for the improvements of the Show. Such should be
made in writing and handed in at the Secretary's office.
                         GENERAL ANIMALS
20. All exhibitors to have exhibits penned or displayed half an hour
prior to judging. Refer to individual sections for judging time.
21. A steward will be in attendance on show day from 4:00pm to
help in the loading of sheep.
22. No distinguishing marks of ownership with the exception of
earmarking, ear tags and registered brand, may be attached to any
pen or animal exhibited.
23. In the dog trial section a maiden shall be one which has not won
a first prize at any trial at close of entry.
24. No animal will be allowed to take part in the Grand Parade
carrying any awards or ribbons won at previous shows.
25. Any animal found to be unsound shall be removed from the
grounds.
26. Only registered sheep are eligible for purebred sections.
27. No animal from a herd or farm under movement control for TB
or Brucellosis or distance control place notice and cattle awaiting a
comparative cervical test result and any replacement stock
associated with such animals shall be exhibited at an A&P Show. (A
herd consists of all replacement animals grazed off the farm
regardless of how many mobs they are farmed in).

                              EQUESTRIAN

                   AWARDS/PRIZES/TROPHIES
29. Any prize winner in the equestrian, goat or led cattle sections
not taking part in the Grand Parade may have his prize money
forfeited. While it is preferable all prize winners appear in the Grand
Parade with their animal exhibit, in the case of any health and safety
concerns, an unsafe animal or extenuating circumstances where you
are unable to participate, please apply in writing for payment of
prize money to the Secretary stating your reasons clearly. The
convener of that section will make the final decision and, if
approved, prize money will be paid within a month of the Show.
30. In the event of there being no competition in any class, no prize
will be given unless the judge certifies to particular merit, and the
judges are specially requested to withhold prizes in cases where
there is competition if the exhibits are of inferior description.
31. In the case of funds of the Society are at any time insufficient,
after paying expenses and making necessary provisions for all

liabilities, to pay prize-money in full, the amount available for the
purpose shall be distributed pro rata among the prize-winners. All
special prizes not competed for, or awarded, to become the property
of the Society.
32. Scale of Points: First 5, Second 4, Third 3, Champion 2,
Reserve Champion 1, Tie half points only. In the event of ties for
aggregates, First shall have preference.
33. Some Special Prizes may not be as stated as they are not all
confirmed by printing of the schedule.
34. Cups and Trophies - No trophies to be taken on show day.
35. All cups and trophies will be engraved by the Society.
Winners may arrange to have a photo taken with the trophy on
Show day or during the year, or alternately, request a photo of
the trophy. Arrangements may be made for the collection of a
trophy or cup. Please contact the Secretary for more
information.
                          SPECIAL TROPHY:
 FMG Cup and monetary prize awarded to the Supreme Champion
                            over all livestock.
                                 OTHER
36. All vehicles enter at own risk and are accepted for parking on
condition that the Mackenzie A & P Society accepts no
responsibility for any loss, theft, injury or damage to persons or
vehicles, their contents, fitting or accessories even when such loss,
theft, injury or damage is attributed to any negligence on the part of
the Society or any of its employees or stewards.
37. The Committee reserves the right to remove any motor vehicle,
float, caravan or any other form of trailer which is parked in any
area or manner other than those prescribed by the Committee.
38. All persons admitted into any premises controlled by the
Society shall be subject to the order of the Committee and shall in
the event of misbehaviour such persons may be removed by order of
the President or any two members of the Committee.
39. The President or any two members of the Committee may eject
from the showground’s, without compensation or return of fees, any
persons whose conduct either personal or as proprietor of a
sideshow, or exhibit, is a source of annoyance. The sideshow or
sideshows of any such proprietor shall be closed down.
40. It is the intention of the Society to publish results.
41. Refunds for ALL sections. If a refund is required, the Society
will retain 25% of entry fees for expenses incurred. ALL
applications must have a Veterinarian or Doctors certificates or a
very good reason. ALL refunds are the discretion of the Secretary
and Executive.
42. The decision of the Committee shall be absolutely final in all
cases.

Entry Fee: $3.00 Members, $4.00 Non Members
Prize Money: First $5.00, Second $4.00, Third $3.00
Morning tea will be available for exhibitors and judges between
8.30am and 9.30am
Sheep to be penned by 9.30am judging to start at 10.00am
All prize money to be collected from Convenor from 4.00pm
Entries received after closing date may not be issued prize money
(convenor's discretion).
BRUCELLOSIS REGULATIONS
Rams from Brucellosis accredited free flocks will be accepted for
entry. A copy of certificate must accompany entry form/emailed to
mackenzieapsociety@gmail.com . However, for those unable to
meet these conditions, a blood test certificate will be accepted for
the 2021 show. Evidence of this blood test must be shown to the
Marshall's before stock is unloaded.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Sheep in flock classes must comply with the following:
1. That the sheep are shorn evenly and close to the skin.
2. That the wool has not been trimmed in any way since, except
crutching and dagging.
3. That there has not been any colouring, oiling or locking except
dipping.
4. That the sheep have not been housed, rugged or covered in any
way for more than 48 hours before judging. Sheep will be inspected
in regard to natural conditions.
5. That all mutton breed sheep be shorn on or after 1 September.
The public are requested to keep out of pens and alleyways whilst
judging is in progress.
Any animal found to be unsound shall be removed from the
grounds.
Only registered sheep are eligible for purebred section.

The public are requested to keep out of pens at all times and out of
alleyways whilst judging is in progress.
Exhibitors only will be allowed in during judging.
The judge may at his/her own discretion change sheep from one
class to their correct class with prejudice to the exhibitors.
Exhibitors who have their exhibits changed, apply to the section
steward in charge who will inform them where their exhibits have
been placed.
MERINO
All male Merinos will be judged in sheep ring.
In the Merino section the onus of classification to be on the
Exhibitor. For the guidance of exhibitors, the usually recognized
standards for Merino wool are:
Fine Finer than 18.9 microns
Medium Stronger than 19 microns and over.
Breeders to supply own sheep holders.
Open to Mackenzie - Waitaki Stud breeders
Matching Pair: 1 1-Shear Ram, 1 1-Shear Ewe, any combing
PENNED IN ORDER OF EXHIBITOR.
CUPS / AWARDS
The Mackenzie County A & P Society award Supreme Champion
Tartan Scarf to the Supreme Champion Sheep in the Wool and
Mutton Breed.
A Champion Tartan Scarf and Champion Ticket are given to
Supreme Champion in each breed Class. Reserve Champion tickets
also awarded.
Andrew Grant Memorial Cup for most points in flock sheep, prime
sheep and lambs and wool
NMA Co of NZ Challenge Cup for most points in sheep
Dunnett Bros Cup for a pen of two ewes in the opinion of the judge
the most profitable and suitable for stocking tussock country below
Burkes Pass. Stud stock not eligible.
Glenburn Challenge Cup presented by J Rae Esq for most points in
flock sheep
Fairlie Branch Federated Farmers' Challenge Trophy for most points
in one shear flock ewes
VB & MF Jones Family Cup for most points in registered mutton
breeds
Ian and Dorcy Mackenzie Memorial Cup to the champion
Corriedale sheep
WR McConnell Cup for most points in half, three-quarter and
crossbred flock ewe lambs
W Bain Challenge Cup for best pet lamb

All Equestrian matters on Show Day to be handled at the Equestrian
Caravan (including collecting of back numbers and the redemption
of prize money which will be given AFTER the Grand Parade).
IMPORTANT HEALTH & SAFETY INFORMATION- All persons
entering the grounds must comply with the Health and Safety at
Work Act 2015 (and subsequent amendments.) Please abide by the
safety rules and signage at the Showgrounds. Follow instructions
from Marshals and Show Officials. All competitors must follow the
RAS Equestrian Rulebook. Regulation Safety Helmets/Hats, red
tagged, must be worn by competitors in horse and pony events.
These standards may be subject to change and the latest list can be
found at http://www.ras.org.nz – equestrian. RAS will advise any
changes via their website and Facebook.
ONLY competitors are allowed in the Main Ring. NO
spectators, grooms or assistants in the Main Ring. The exception
are stallion handlers and leaders/attendants in the Lead Rein
section.
All horses must be haltered when led. All Horses/Ponies MUST
have a name tag attached to their halter with the contact details of
the owner/rider. Please be aware of Pedestrian Lanes. Please
enter/exit Ring slowly.
Equestrian Entry Fees ($1.15 per class RAS levy is non-inclusive
and must be paid separately): Members: $5.00, Non Members: $7.00

The RAS equestrian levy of $1.15 per class must be paid by the
entrant (as shown separately on the entry form).

Entries to be made on time please. Entries close 28 February
2021. Any late entries will be charged a late entry fee of
$10/entry form. No entries will be accepted within seven days of
the Show or on the day.
All competitors must wear numbers, one per combination. Your
number will be made available on the day of the show. Number
holders are allowed. Back numbers will be available for hire from
the Equestrian Caravan ($2 refundable deposit required).
The Equestrian Section is run under the Royal Agricultural Society
Equestrian Competitors, Exhibitors and Judges Rules. This
Rulebook is available from the RAS website (www.ras.org.nz).
RIGHTS OF THE EQUESTRIAN CONVENOR: The Equestrian
Convenor, in consultation with Section Convenors, reserves the
right to refuse or cancel any entry without giving any reason for
doing so and reserves the right to make any alteration to the Show
Timetable or withdraw any event as may be deemed desirable. If
there are insufficient entries in a class, at close of entries, classes
may be combined. Any unruly or dangerous animal, or exhibit, may
be required to leave the Showgrounds.
In the event of a horse/pony being entered in the wrong class, a
transfer may be made at the discretion of the Section Convenor for a
fee of $2 per class. No hacks in pony ring in riding classes. In the
event of an entered horse or pony becoming unsound prior to the

show, a substitute may be entered in the SAME CLASS, RIDDEN
BY THE SAME RIDER, provided a vet certificate is produced for
the original entry. The Secretary is to be notified prior to the show.
A Novice is a Horse / Pony that has not had 6 (six) wins in
conformation classes at the day of the show. (Paced & Mannered
wins do not count in conformation classes and conformation classes
do not count in Paced & Mannered classes.) Novice Ponies are to be
shown in snaffle bit only. Please note that a record of wins will be
asked for. All Novice Pony Classes are open to riders of any age
(refer to Equestrian Rulebook MSS 2.1c No rider to compete in two
age groups. Rider/Handler's age and eligibility is determined as per
the 1 August i.e. Riders/handlers who are of age for any
division/section on the 1 August complete the show year/season in
that division/section. Refer to Equestrian Rulebook CDE 11 for
additional rules about the AGE OF RIDERS & HANDLERS.
A Pony may only be entered in the Show Pony Section or the Saddle
Hunter Pony Section - not both.
i. Yellow Card - This Show/Event supports the RAS ‘Yellow Card’
system. A Yellow Card will be issued, In cases of offences in
respect of abuse of animals or inappropriate behaviour as per the
RAS Constitution and the RAS Rules Regulations/Bylaws including
the Equestrian Rulebook, the RAS affiliated Show/Event/registered
Measuring Stand and their grounds and their duly appointed
delegates may deliver to the Person Responsible a Yellow Warning
Card (either immediately or within 10 days of the show) which
suspends any penalty until possible new offences. Full wording of
the ‘Yellow Card’ system is available to view on the RAS website –
www.ras.org.nz.
ii. Clean Sport - The Rules of the Royal A&P Society New Zealand
in regard to Clean Sport apply. Competitors are advised that tests for
forbidden substances may be carried out during the Show/Event and
that testing of all animals is at the person responsible’s risk.
Forbidden Substance - Any substance capable of affecting the speed,
stamina, courage or conduct of a horse, pony, donkey or mule by its
action upon the central or peripheral nervous system or the cardio-
vascular, respiratory, alimentary, digestive, muscoskeletal or
urogenital systems.
iii. Arrears -No person who is in arrears with regard to entry fees,
subscriptions, or any other Show/Event charge is eligible to compete
at any affiliated Show/Event. Proof of payment will be required
before any restriction is lifted.
iv. Summary of RAS Resolution Process – the full process can be
found on the RAS website www.ras.org.nz. The principle behind the
process is to deal with the matter as it comes to hand and in most
cases it should be dealt with directly by the show. If the matter is in
regards to an RAS official, the complaint should be directed to the
RAS CEO who will facilitate the necessary process.
RAS Horse/Pony Certificate MUST be carried and number clearly
stated on Entry Form (the exception is the Pleasure Horse/Pony and
Shepherd's Hack sections). Online entries
must enter the number or email a photocopy to the Secretary
(mackenzieapsociety@gmail.com). Failure to do so will result in
elimination. Please refer to Equestrian Rulebook CDE1.

STALLIONS: The Secretary MUST be informed on the entry form
that a stallion is being entered. Online entries must email the
Secretary (mackenzieapsociety@gmail.com). As per Equestrian
Rulebook CDE 14. STALLIONS and COLTS a) All stallions and
colts (with the exception of Miniature horses and foals) must be
shown in a bit. b) A Steward will order any stallion/colt considered
out of control or to be causing undue disquiet to other horses from
the ring without recourse from the
stallion/colt's/exhibitor/competitor. c) It is compulsory for all
stallions and colts, except foals, to wear two (2) official 'S”
identification badges, one attached to each side of their bridle, at all
Shows/Events at all times. The rider must also wear two RAS
official (2) armbands (one on each arm) when in the ring. 'S' badges
to be purchased from RAS Head Office or ESNZ; armbands from
RAS Head Office. d) Handlers and Riders of stallions/colts must
wear an approved Hi Viz vest at Shows/Events when outside the
showing ring. Vests can be purchased from RAS Head Office.
  ALL PRIZE WINNERS ARE EXPECTED TO APPEAR IN
     THE GRAND PARADE. THE GRAND PARADE IS AN
       IMPORTANT PART OF AN A&P SHOW AND WE
          STRONGLY ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION.
  WHILE IT IS PREFERABLE FOR ALL PRIZE WINNERS
     TO APPEAR IN THE GRAND PARADE WITH THEIR
  HORSE/PONY, IN THE CASE OF STALLIONS, NOVICE,
         LEAD REIN AND FIRST RIDDEN ENTRANTS,
                  PARTICIPATION IS OPTIONAL.
IN THE CASE OF ANY HEALTH AND SAFETY CONCERNS
         OF ANY ENTRANTS, AN UNSAFE MOUNT OR
   EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE YOU ARE
 UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE, PLEASE APPLY IN WRITING
 FOR PAYMENT OF PRIZE MONEY TO THE SECRETARY
 STATING YOUR REASONS CLEARLY. THE EQUESTRIAN
 CONVENOR WILL MAKE THE FINAL DECISION AND, IF
   APPROVED, PRIZE MONEY WILL BE PAID WITHIN A
                      MONTH OF THE SHOW.

 SHOWGROUNDS OPEN 9AM SATURDAY MARCH. RING
                         WILL BE CLOSED.
BOXES & YARDS
The Committee has the right to ask for a box/yard to be vacated in
the case of an emergency or if your horse/pony is in the wrong
box/yard or if the box/yard has not been paid for. Limited box/yard
accommodation is available on the show grounds. These are
allocated at the discretion of the convenor. YOU MUST state on the
Entry Form which nights/day are required. If entered online, you
must email the Secretary. All Horses/Ponies MUST have a name tag
attached to their halter with the contact details of the owner/rider.
Box/Yard Charges: $25.00 per night box, $20.00 per day box,
$15.00 per night yard, $10.00 per day yard, Weekend Package (from

9am Saturday Night and Day) box $75.00 or yard $40 - to be paid
with entry and left clean. If boxes/yards are left dirty, you will be
charged a cleaning fee.
All cups and trophies will be engraved by the Society and will be
displayed in the Mackenzie A & P Committee Room. Winners may
arrange to have a photo taken with the trophy on Show day (please
enquire at the Equestrian Caravan) or during the year, or alternately,
request a photo of the trophy. Arrangements may be made for the
collection of a trophy or cup. Please contact the Secretary for more
information.
HORSE SPECIAL PRIZES: A Supreme Rosette will be awarded
to the horse judged Supreme over all groups. Rug sponsored by
South Canterbury Saddlery to be presented to the Supreme Horse.
Supreme Horse will be presented for Supreme Exhibit at conclusion
of the Parade.
The Society's Champion Tartan Scarf awarded to Open Champion
Horse in each section: Hack, Park Hack, Saddle Hunter, Riding
Horse. A Reserve Champion Ribbon also awarded in all sections.
A Champion Purple Sash and Reserve Champion Sash will be
awarded to Novice Champions.
First Placed Open Height Class winners to be paraded in
Championship Classes, Second Place winners to stand by.
PONY SPECIAL PRIZES: A Supreme Rosette will be awarded to
the pony judged Supreme over all groups. Rug sponsored by
Craighead Diocesan School to be presented to the Pony Supreme.
Supreme Pony will be presented for Supreme Exhibit at conclusion
