The Lincoln Imp
Hidden up high on a pillar in the Angel Choir
of Lincoln Cathedral you will find a symbol of
the city swirling in myth and legend:
the Lincoln Imp.

One day, as a 14th century legend has it,
the Devil decided to let his imps out to play.

After causing havoc at Chesterfield by
twisting the spire of St Mary and All Saints
Church, the wind blew two of them all the
way to Lincoln.

They were so spellbound by the beauty
of Lincoln Cathedral that they were afraid
to enter. One imp, plucking up courage,
entered Lincoln Cathedral and soon started
to cause havoc by tripping up the Lord
Bishop, knocking down the Dean and teasing
the Vergers and Choir. As he continued his
antics by smashing stain glass windows
and destroying lights an angel appeared and
commanded,

“O impious imp, be ye turned to stone!”.

The imp was at once turned into stone,
and made to sit for evermore in a cleft in the
Angel Choir.

auction in October in conjunction wth

I used JHWalter for the sale of my proper ty and purchase of our

Simon and all the staff I dealt with were incredibly professional,
helpful and a pleasure to deal with at all times. I would not hesitate

These include a nun, reputed to be from the convent

For those buying a home it is impor tant to
remember that a mor tgage lender’s repor t is
not a sur vey. Indeed, many lenders rely on a
computer automated valuation where no one

An RICS sur vey will tell the buyer the
actual condition of the building. This is
vital information which can be invaluable
during price negotiations and will help avoid
expensive surprises after a buyer has moved
in. Indeed, sur veys can be used by vendors
to aid selling a proper ty by showing any
problems that could delay the sale, or cause
price reductions later in the process.
