SERIES MODULES
Based on decades of experience and the special and demanding re-
quirements of our customers, we have developed a number of stan-
dard living modules with various layouts in different lengths. Our
already proven solutions have a large selection of special equipment
that can be configured to expand your living space according to your
individual needs.
At KRUG EXPEDITION we strive to continually improve the quality of our
products and make them more affordable. This quality and affordabil-
ity is delivered by standardizing our systems and layouts so that these
configurations can be continuously tested in practice. The feedback
from our customers and our workshop are the key building blocks that
enable us to bring innovative solutions to our series modules.
For body lengths from 4.6 to 7 meters, we offer three different stan-
dard layout concepts, each of which fulfils a specific set of require-
ments corresponding to different needs and purposes.

33EXTERNAL LAMINATE
The specially designed laminate that is used for the outer layers of our
sandwich panels is made from multiple layers of high-density cross-woven
fiberglass impregnated with an epoxy resin. It has much greater strength and
impact resistance than the standard laminates used by other manufacturers.
Regular laminates are based predominantly on polyester resin, which
tends to be more brittle and does not have the same capability to chemically
bond with fiberglass as epoxy resin does. Our laminate has 70% percent
fiberglass content, whereas traditional GRP laminates can have up to 50%,
but typically only 25-30% fiberglass content.
Using a higher percentage of fiberglass and epoxy resin results in high
tensile strength, high stiffness and outstanding impact resistance. These
properties allow us to use a laminate layer that is only 2mm thick for the
exterior shell for our sandwich panels. This keeps the weight of the module at
an optimal level while ensuring that the technical properties of our external
shell laminate exceed that of traditional laminates that are 3-4 mm thick,
fully eliminating the common problem of surface cracks that occurs when
traditional GRP sandwich panels are used.
Our external laminate has lower density than Aluminum and three times
the tensile strength. This means that our material is lighter and three times
stronger than a layer of aluminum of the same thickness. Additionally,
aluminum is much more heat conductive and less resistant to atmospheric
conditions compared to Krug laminates.
POLYURETHANE INSULATION CORE
Thanks to the excellent thermal insulation properties of the polyurethane
foam, our 60 mm panels offer the same level of insulation as a 300 mm thick
wooden wall.
INTERNAL LAMINATE
Since the mechanical stress placed on the interior is significantly lower, we use
a GRP laminate with a lower proportion of glass compared to the laminate we
use on the outside. This saves a significient amount of weight and enables the
addition of an extra thick gelcoat layer that covers the laminate surface and
resulting in a perfectly smooth interior finish.
34HEATING SYSTEM
By default, all our modules are equipped with a diesel-powered air heating
system, which offers very short heat-up times, low-noise operation and infinitely
variable power control for a consistent temperature inside the module.
Heating with diesel gives optimal freedom. Since the fuel is taken directly
from the vehicle tank fuel for heating is always available wherever you are,
and it is not necessary to purchase a second type of fuel for heating. Especially
during trips in the winter and abroad, diesel heating offers great advantages
compared to gas heating. Gas heating can account for more than 80% of
the total gas consumption in the winter. As such, with gas heating is often
necessary to procure suitable gas bottles and adapters abroad, which can be a
time consuming, complicated and expensive endeavor, and gas bottles take up
additional storage space that can be better used for other purposes. In addition,
when using our system heat for your living module can also be produced as you
drive by recycling heat from the vehicle engine.
The air heating can optionally be upgraded to a liquid heating system. LIQUID HEATING
At the heart of the system is an autonomous 5 kW Webasto diesel heater. SYSTEM DIAGRAM
While driving, excess heat from the engine can be transferred into the living
module’s heating circuit by means of a heat exchanger. In addition, the hot
water boiler can also operate using standard 230/110 V electrical power which
can come from excess solar energy or a shore power connection. All this makes
the system very flexible and efficient. It is easy to switch between using different
sources of energy for heating. This system is far more efficient and suitable for
extreme colds than regular air heating systems.
Our modules are optionally equipped with a special high-altitude version of
the 9 kW Webasto heater, designed to work at the altitudes up to 5000 m. Most
of diesel heaters as well as some diesel engines are not designed to perform at
high altitudes, which have low air density and atmospheric pressure. Sometimes
