ABOUT SOUTH AFRICA

  GENERAL INFORMATION
The Republic of South Africa is a parliamentary democracy comprising nine provinces which is
located at the southern tip of Africa, with a 2,798 kilometres coastline on the Atlantic and Indian
Oceans. To the north lies Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe; to the east are Mozambique and
Swaziland; while Lesotho is an enclave surrounded by South African territory. South Africa is known
for its diversity in cultures and languages. Eleven official languages are recognised in the
constitution. Two of these languages are of European origin: Afrikaans, a language which originated
mainly from Dutch that is spoken by the majority of white and Coloured South Africans, and South
African English. Though English is commonly used in public and commercial life, it is only the fifth
most-spoken home language. South Africa is a constitutional democracy in the form of a
parliamentary republic; unlike most parliamentary republics, the positions of head of state and head
of government are merged in a parliament-dependent President. It is one of the founding members
of the African Union, and has the largest economy of all the members. It is also a founding member
of the United Nations and NEPAD.

  SOUTH AFRICAN FLAG
The current flag of the Republic of South Africa was adopted on 27 April 1994, at the beginning of
the 1994 general election, to replace the flag that had been used since 1928. The new national flag,
designed by Herald Frederick Brownell, was chosen to represent the new democracy. The flag has
horizontal bands of red (on the top) and blue (on the bottom), of equal width, separated by a central
green band which splits into a horizontal "Y" shape, the arms of which end at the corners of the hoist
side (and follow the flag's diagonals). The Y embraces a black isosceles triangle from which the
arms are separated by narrow yellow bands; the red and blue bands are separated from the green
band and its arms by narrow white stripes. The stripes at the fly end are in the 5:1:3:1:5 ratio.

CAPE TOWN

Cape Town (Afrikaans: Kaapstad; Xhosa: iKapa) is the second-most populous city in South Africa,
and the largest in land area, forming part of the City of Cape Town metropolitan municipality. It
is the provincial capital and primate city of the Western Cape, as well as the legislative capital of
South Africa, where the National Parliament and many government offices are located. The city
is famous for its harbour as well as its natural setting in the Cape floral kingdom, including such
well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point. Cape Town is also Africa's most popular
tourist destination. Located on the shore of Table Bay, Cape Town was originally developed by
the Dutch East India Company as a victualling (supply) station for Dutch ships sailing to Eastern
Africa, India, and the Far East. Jan van Riebeeck's arrival on 6 April 1652 established the first
permanent European settlement in South Africa. Cape Town quickly outgrew its original purpose as
the first European outpost at the Castle of Good Hope, becoming the economic and cultural hub of
the Cape Colony. Until the Witwatersrand Gold Rush and the development of Johannesburg, Cape
Town was the largest city in South Africa. Today it is one of the most multicultural cities in the
world, reflecting its role as a major destination for immigrants and expatriates to South Africa.

up the mountain is the cableway, which has attracted a whopping 24 million visitors since it first

Chapman’s Peak Drive is affectionately known as “Chappies” and is a must for anyone who is
passionate about the majestic Cape Town scenery, with sheer drops to the sea below and towering
mountains rising above you. The twists and curves in the road seem endless and it is a
photographer’s dream. It is a paradise for motorists, sightseers, picnickers, runners, hikers and bikers
(both the motorised and the manual varieties). The 9km route, with its 114 curves, skirts the rocky
coastline of Chapman’s Peak (593m), which is the southerly extension of Constantiaberg and is a
great hike for the energetically inclined. The drive offers stunning 180° views with many areas along
the route.

Cape Point Ostrich Farm
The Cape Point Ostrich Farm was established in 1996 and turned into an ostrich breeding farm. You
are most welcome to join them on a guided tour of the farm. Their well-trained team will be more
than happy to show you around and give you detailed information about the life cycle of an ostrich
from egg to the adult bird. Being a productive breeding farm, everything is done to comfort and
accommodate their 40 breeding birds.

Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve (Cape Point)
The Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve forms part of the Cape Peninsula Park and is managed by
the South African National Parks. The Nature Reserve is recognized globally for its extraordinary land
formation, rich and diverse fauna and unique flora. Nowhere else in the world does an area of such
spectacular beauty and such rich biodiversity exist almost within a metropolitan area - the thriving
and cosmopolitan City of Cape Town. The legendary Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope form part
of the Nature Reserve.

Boulder Penguins (Simons Town)
See a breeding colony of African penguins at close range at Boulders. These flightless birds roam
around the area freely, so you can get close to them, but please don’t disturb them. They can bite –
a warning sign is when they move their heads from side to side. The Boulders colony started in 1983
and is one of very few mainland penguin colonies. These fast-swimming, deep-diving, braying birds
have thrived in their protected home.

DECLARATION

I/We confirm that to the best of my/our knowledge that my son/daughter does not suffer from any medical conditions
other than those detailed above and that would prevent him/her taking part in the 2021 LIONS INTERNATIONAL SPORTS
FESTIVAL safely.

I/We hereby grant permission to the tour’s appointed trainer, physician or other hospital or emergency personnel to
attend to my/our child. I/We also allow for any emergency, medical and/or first aid to be administered to my/our
son/daughter, including authorizing any medical treatment facility/hospital to administer emergency treatment, for any
illness/injury/accident resulting from any activities while participating in the tour. I/We authorize the diagnosis,
treatment and/or hospital care of my/our son/daughter in the event of an accident, injury, sickness, etc. and assume
the responsibility for payment of any such treatment.

In the event of serious injury, I/we expect that reasonable effort will be made to contact the
parent/guardian/emergency contact of the participant in order to receive authorization before any medical treatment
is undertaken. However, I/we agree to this treatment being authorized by a member of the tour organization, who may
sign any written form of consent required by hospital authorities should a surgical operation and/or medication be
deemed necessary and providing that the delay to obtain my authorization might be considered by a doctor likely to
endanger my/our son’s/daughter’s health and safety.
I/We hereby confirm that my/our son/daughter has appropriate medical insurance that provides coverage for injury
and/or illness for the activities and sport they are partaking in, including suitable cover where legal, medical, and
repatriation costs may be required.

In accepting to partake in this tour, organizers and other people involved in the organization of the tour and the venues
are excluded from any liability concerning injury or harm suffered by tour members during the tour or for any direct,
indirect or consequential loss or damage which you or any third party may incur in connection with participating in the
tour. These limitations and exclusions do not affect statutory rights and only apply to the extent permitted by applicable
law.

Participants in the tour may be photographed, filmed and/or interviewed during the course of the tour. I/We consent
that photographs, films and interviews of participants may be used for the marketing purposes of tour and their
partners.

By completing and signing this consent form, I/we confirm that I/we have read and accepted the terms above, the terms
and conditions on the Company website and have given permission for my/our son/daughter to participate in the tour.
I/We will make sure this child has adequate Travel and medical Insurance, which will include any injury the child might
occur during a sports match or training session. I/We understand that Visa and other travel documentation is the sole
responsibility of the person travelling and not that of Eco South Africa Sport and Travel PTY Ltd. I/We understand that
this child will not be allowed to consume any alcoholic beverages, use any form of drugs, smoking or that any other
form of misbehaviour will be tolerated. Such consent shall be irrevocable, worldwide and perpetual.
