We offer three tailored guided tour packages to suit the secondary school age group, which will be sure to excite
and educate your students, and are led by experienced, engaging and knowledgeable tour guides.
Our additional add-on experiences allow your students to experience different elements and activities within the

LIFE IN THE WOMEN’S PRISON
30 + students required
TOUR OVERVIEW: History Tour (1 Hour) + Experience (1 Hour)
This education package combines the Boggo Road Gaol History Tour with an immersive
historical re-enactment by the Prison Players: Female Division who bring the Gaol to life
through live theatre. The Players recreate His Majesty’s Prison for Women at Boggo Road in the
year 1907. Students will learn what life was like for female prisoners behind the red brick walls,
more than 100 years ago.
EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:
Students will come face-to-face with “real” female prisoners, and
can ask them about their lives and crimes, be taught how to fold
blankets and sweep the floor, watched over by a female warder who
can tell them about her role, duties and responsibilities.
Students will be part of a “muster” (roll call), then be marched into
the workshop to learn how to sew – an essential skill taught to
prisoners to help them find employment when they were released.
Students leave with a deep understanding of how hard life was for
women on the wrong side of the law – and those who guarded them
– more than a century ago.

Discover the 116 year history of Boggo Road, the crimes and daily life of prisoners, officer’s
duties, riots and roof-top protests. See the cell of the legendary “Slim” Halliday – “The Houdini
of Boggo Road”.
TOUR INCLUDES:
Entry into historic Number 2 Division, Boggo Road Gaol.
Visits to the gatehouse, yards, the Circle and ends with time to
explore F Wing cellblock – where prisoners staged a rooftop protest
in 1988.
See original prisoner cells, including graffiti from the 1980s.

ESCAPES TOUR
TOUR OVERVIEW: Escapes Tour (1.5 hours)
Learn of the jail-breakers who breached the escape-proof walls of No.2 Division. See where
escapologist “Slim” Halliday – “The Houdini of Boggo Road” escaped in 1940. Visit his cell
designed to keep him locked up! PG rated.
TOUR INCLUDES:
Entry into historic Number 2 Division, Boggo Road Gaol.
Visits to the gatehouse, yard, the Circle, the back track and ends with
time to explore D Wing cellblock – where the cell of the infamous
Slim Halliday is located.

GALLOWS EXHIBITION
TOUR OVERVIEW: Gallows Exhibition (30 minutes)
Between 1883 and 1913, forty-two criminals comprised of thirty-nine men, one woman and
two teenagers were executed at Boggo Road Gaol – all were hanged. The last man hanged
was Ernest Austin in September, 1913. In 1922, Queensland became the first state in the British
Empire to legislate the end of capital punishment.
TOUR INCLUDES:
View the last remaining items of the Gallows including the beam
and the item from the dreaded Black Hole.
Visual displays and stories telling the stories of those executed,
their crimes, and their awful punishments. It also explores the long
political battle to abolish capital punishment – a practice that began
in the 1890’s – and looks at the Labor and community leaders who
fought to remove the death penalty.

This is not a guided session, but rather an opportunity to explore the incredible historical site and take photos and videos with your own cameras. PRICING: Up to 1 hour - $125 Up to 2 hours - $175 ART & SKETCHING SESSION INCLUSIONS: Gain access to the gatehouse, yards, the Circle and cellblocks to draw sketches of the incredible historical structures. The Contact Visits area, which features mural artwork by a prisoner at the time, Ray Wallis, can also be used as a drawing space. PRICING: Up to 1 hour - $125 Up to 2 hours - $175 YARD GAMES & EXERCISE INCLUSIONS: Utilise up to three yards and immerse your students into life in the yards. Activities include quoits and handball. unique and impressive venue for film and photography.

TRAIL OVERVIEW:
Explore and gain insight into our legal and democratic systems through the eyes of several
key Queensland history, law and justice institutions. Learn about life during the early years of
settlement, the history of crime and punishment in Queensland or explore Brisbane’s unique
architecture. Organise a visit to 1 or 2 of the stops on the trail, or discover the whole story with
a full-day excursion.

Travel back in time to explore the Moreton Bay penal settlement, learn more about the history of the
Commissariat Store and appreciate life as a convict and free-settlers. Visits can be customised to
