It is a common occurrance that many of you take copies of this catalog from our 9
book stands found in various conference venues. Indeed, more than one book
featured in the following pages had their origins in a pleasant conversations at one

This year will not go down in history as in any way usual. Throughout the past 27
year “real” conferences had to be canceled altogether, or were transformed to

The images that adorn our catalog covers are the product of a design competition that is carried out
each year by De Gruyter in cooperation with Lette Verein Berlin, a vocational training association. Par-
ticipants in the competition were asked to create a series of interrelated images that are united by an
overarching design concept. We would like to thank Alexander Kerski for his winning submission, which
uses procedurally generated letter-based objects to create vibrant and abstract visual worlds.
