John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School is pleased to offer the James Martin Scholarship which provides for
the full remission of tuition fees for Years 7 to 12 from 2021 for children of former or current Defence Force Personnel.
James Martin Scholarship - Awarded to 2 students in Year 7, 2021 at a school other than John Septimus Roe
Anglican Community School. (Provides for 100% remission of tuition fees at JSRACS for Year 7, 2021 through to Year
12, 2026).
James Martin was born in Perth, Western Australia in June 1991. James was a student of John Septimus Roe Anglican
Community School between the years 2004 – 2008 (inclusive).
James was dedicated to the School community of John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School. He demonstrated
his ability and commitment in many sporting teams, most notably the First XI Cricket Team. James also competed
eagerly and with success in the Associated and Catholic Colleges Cricket, Football and Athletics Teams over many
years. James also played in the Champion School Soccer Team in 2008. Apart from sport, James demonstrated a
passion for Music and annually showcased his musical talent and performed with his band in the School’s ‘Big Night
In’ Rock Concert. James’ strength was his belief in the importance of contributing to the life of the community and
he led this call by example.
James enlisted into the Australian Regular Army in January 2011 and completed recruit training in April 2011. In May
2011, he began his Initial Employment Training as a Combat Engineer. After completing this course in August 2011,
James was posted to the 2nd Combat Engineer Regiment in Brisbane.
In June 2012, James deployed on his first operation, as part of the 3rd Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment Task
Group. James was killed in action on 29 August 2012 when he and two other Australian soldiers were shot dead by
a member of the Afghan National Army at a patrol base north of Tarin Kowt.
CONDITIONS OF AWARD
These scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Principal by recommendation from the Scholarship
Committee. Successful candidates must demonstrate a sound academic record together with the potential to make
a positive contribution to the School.
The continuation of the Scholarship throughout the year is subject to the recipients making good academic progress,
displaying conduct of the highest standard and contributing to the life of the School through participation in
leadership and other co-curricular activities.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
• The attached application form should be completed and returned to the School together with:
• A copy of the student’s latest school report;
• A copy of the student’s Year 5 NAPLAN results;
• A recent character reference from an adult who knows the applicant well and is not related to the applicant.
• Evidence of parent/s current or former association with the Australian Defence Forces (Army, Navy or Airforce)
INTERVIEWS
Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to attend an interview with the Principal, or his delegate, with their parents,
following which they will have the opportunity to tour the School facilities and meet with Senior School staff members.

a positive contribution to the School therefore JSRACS may contact my child’s current school with regard to
their academic achievement and involvement in school life.
all scholarships are awarded on the basis that our child will remain enrolled at JSRACS until the conclusion
of Year 12. Should a Scholarship recipient leave the School prior to graduation, we may be required to return
the financial award of the Scholarship to the School.
the award of the James Martin Scholarship is at the full discretion of the Principal of JSRACS.
