From The Heddes Family
Hi Andrew, Greg, Selena and all at Ray White Surfers Paradise
I was reading the paper and noticed you have the annual Ray White Surfers Paradise
Muscular Dystrophy Charity Ball coming up and this reminded our family of the
Malcolm, Tiffany & Bailey Heddes wonderful work you all do for the community and in particular for children who are
affected by Muscular Dystrophy.
You all hold a very special place in our hearts – 10 years ago you donated a Giraffe
chair for our son Bailey. This was donated through funds raised at your Ball. Bailey
Do it with passion, was 1 year old at the time and the Giraffe chair allowed him to sit up and be part
of the family. This chair allowed Bailey to develop and experience life. Since those
or not at all.
early days Bailey is now onto his third power wheelchair.
We recently purchased him a chair from USA at a cost of $30,000. This chair has a
high low function so Bailey is able to independently move his seat to low or high. For
the first time he can now be at the same height as his peers, he can sit at the kitchen
bench and he can see what his Dad is cooking on the BBQ and can now see where I
hide the chocolates in the pantry!! These are things we all take for granted, but with
this simple function it really has opened a whole new world up to Bailey. However
in typical Bailey fashion when I told him about his new wheelchair and the ability to
raise his seat, he said
“Great so that means when I turn 18 I can sit up at the bar with my mates”!
Bailey has a wonderful sense of humour.
Bailey’s condition has deteriorated over the last 2 years and he now relies on his
breathing machine 24/7 and regular pain medication. We cherish each day and
make the most of life. Bailey will graduate from Grade 7 at Guardian Angels this
year and will go to Aquinas College a few hours a week. Despite not being at school
much he keeps up with his homework and we Skype into class. Bailey is a very bright
intelligent boy who has always excelled at his school work. He is a huge sports fan
and has won the footy tipping comp this year.
Tiffany, Bailey Heddes & Andrew Bell Anyway, I must go and get Bailey up and ready for the day. Just wanted to say a
HUGE THANK YOU to all of you for making such a difference and we wish you a
successful night.
With love from, Malcolm, Tiffany, Sam and Bailey Heddes
