Coming Home
The stirring chorus of Beethoven’s Symphony 9 celebrates the universal
brotherhood that the Holy Spirit brings us: “All men shall become brothers, wherever
your gentle wings hover (Alle Menschen warden Brüder. Wo dein sanfter Flügel
weil.).” The magnificent finale of the symphony proclaims the creative power of the
Holy Spirit that forms and binds us as brothers and sisters in Christ.
This is what heaven is like, observes Fr. Timothy Radcliffe, OP: “The kingdom
of God not another place hidden in a remote part of the universe to which one might
hope to go home one day. It is the unity of all human beings in Christ… Christ is the
one in whom the whole of creation is gathered into unity. So our homecoming is to
the whole of humanity.”
Coming to Sunday Mass is our homecoming. Whenever two or three of us get together and pray in the Lord, we
are home with the Lord. Whenever we see healing, forgiveness, and reconciliation among estranged people, we
encounter the Lord. We are home. The Kingdom of God is the very unity and communion of people in Christ.
We see continuing conflicts among nations, relentlessly partisan politics and media, hair-splitting self-serving
fission in academia, and self-centered lifestyle and apathy of individualism. Living in the middle of this impasse of
mutually contradicting agenda and pursuits, we proclaim the central mystery of Christian faith, namely, the Holy
Trinity, which reveals exactly the opposite. This mystery is the disclosure of God who is not solitary or self-contained,
but lives eternally in ecstatic, outgoing love. According to the Christian scriptural belief, human persons, created in the
image of this God, find their personhood realized not in autonomy or self-sufficiency or isolation but in self-donation.
We come to ourselves through others, which is the most fundamental and intriguing mystery and paradox of human
existence.
Our God is a relational God and so are the human persons. This means that our life is about ever-fuller
participation in communion with God and with others. This divine community of the Father, the Son, and the Holy
Spirit is the grammar and paradigm of Christian living.
Today, there is a healthy tendency of cross-fertilization in the midst of distressing compartmentalization among
various disciplines. Even the great religions come together for a dialogue of life, truth, and cooperation. Hopefully, we
will continue to overcome arrogance, self-sufficiency, and unilateral introspection. May we grow in our mutual concern
and engage and participate in life that is a web of ever-growing and life-giving relationships!

PS. Last Sunday was Pentecost Sunday, celebrating the completion of God’s saving works by sending the Holy Spirit on
us. Our Intercultural Mass was wonderful with our children in cultural costumes praying in various languages. Music was
glorious. We also celebrated baptism, full communion with the Catholic Church, and First Communion. What a
magnificent way to celebrate Pentecost!

Congratulations to 8th Grader, Alexis Braswell who completed her interview for the
Desertification and Drought Day Conference which will take place on June 17 th in Costa
Rica. She is the trailblazer because she completed her artwork and was the first to be
interviewed. We will be sharing the completed interview. This is just the beginning of our

Así es el cielo, dice el P. Timothy Radcliffe, OP: “El reino de Dios no otro
lugar escondido en una parte remota del universo al que uno podría
esperar volver a casa algún día. Es la unidad de todos los seres humanos

Venir a la misa dominical es nuestro regreso a casa. Siempre que dos o tres de nosotros nos
reunimos y rezamos en el Señor, estamos en casa con el Señor. Siempre que veamos sanación,
perdón y reconciliación entre personas alejadas, nos encontramos con el Señor. Estamos en casa. El
Reino de Dios es la unidad misma y la comunión de personas en Cristo.
Vemos conflictos continuos entre naciones, política y medios de comunicación partidistas
implacables, aterradoras fisiones egoístas en la academia, y estilo de vida egocéntrico y apatía del
individualismo. Viviendo en medio de este problema de agenda y objetivos mutuamente
contradictorios, proclamamos el misterio central de la fe, es decir, la Santísima Trinidad, que revela
exactamente lo contrario. Este misterio es la revelación de Dios que no es solitario ni autónomo,
sino que vive eternamente en un amor extático y abierto. Según la creencia escritural cristiana, las
personas humanas, creadas a imagen de este Dios, encuentran su personalidad realizada no en
autonomía, autosuficiencia o aislamiento sino en la auto donación. Venimos a nosotros mismos a
través de otros, que es el misterio y la paradoja más fundamental e intrigante de la existencia
humana.
Nuestro Dios es un Dios relacional y también lo son las personas humanas. Esto significa que nuestra
vida se trata de la participación cada vez más plena en la comunión con Dios y con los demás. Esta
comunidad divina del Padre, el Hijo, y el Espíritu Santo es la gramática y el modelo de la vida
cristiana.
Hoy en día, existe una tendencia saludable a la fertilización cruzada en medio de angustiosos
compartimentación entre varias disciplinas. Incluso las grandes religiones se unen para un diálogo
de vida, verdad y cooperación. Con suerte, continuaremos superando la arrogancia, la
autosuficiencia e introspección unilateral. ¡Que podamos crecer en nuestra preocupación mutua y
comprometernos a participar en la vida que es una red de relaciones cada vez mayores y
vivificantes!

PD. El domingo pasado fue el domingo de Pentecostés, celebrando la finalización de la obra
salvadora de Dios enviando el Espíritu Santo sobre nosotros. Nuestra Misa Intercultural fue
maravillosa con nuestros niños en trajes culturales rezando en varios idiomas. La música fue
gloriosa. También celebramos el bautismo, plena comunión con los católicos. Iglesia y Primera
