LOUISE KERR: CANIS LUPUS FAMILIARIS
“The world would be a nicer place if everyone had the ability to love as
unconditionally as a dog.” Agatha Christie
Drawing inspiration from Papua New Guinean and African sculpture, Kerr
uses the coil-basket technique to create three-dimensional dogs that
are painted and enhanced with very fine twine and clay. The resulting
idiosyncratic creatures impart her personal perspective within the rich
history of our relationship with dogs, both domestic and wild.

Fast becoming a key event on the Australian and international motorsport
calendar, the Bathurst 12-Hour attracts teams and drivers from across the
globe, competing in the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The race’s profile is in
stark contrast to relatively humble beginnings as a production car race in the
early 1990s, with most entrants being local privateers.
The intervening years saw the race on hiatus for over a decade, punctuated by
two 24-Hour races in 2002 and 2003 that tested the viability of an endurance
race for GT cars on Mount Panorama. But the rebirth of the Bathurst 12-Hour
in 2007 would set the scene for the rise of a second world-class event at
Australia’s greatest racing circuit.
This exhibition looks back over the history of the Bathurst 12-Hour and 24-
Hour endurance races.

escalating identity crisis as his many and various relationships compete for
his attention, Garry’s few remaining days at home are a chaotic whirlwind

PAUL DAVIES: THE GOLDEN DAYS
Paul Davies is an Australian-born, Los Angeles-based artist whose
work is driven by friction between opposing forces of built and natural
environments, design and art, abstraction and figuration. These boundaries
and relationships are illustrated through Davies' process, which combines
painting, stencilling, photography and sculpture. The Golden Days reflects on
the connection between Los Angeles, California, and Hill End, NSW, through
an exploration of landscape and notions of ‘gold rush’ in the context of
historical and present day meaning.
A Bathurst Regional Art Gallery exhibition with Olsen Gallery, Sydney.

BATHURST REGIONAL ART GALLERY EXHIBITIONS continued....
MARION HALL BEST: INTERIORS
This exhibition colourfully charts the work of Marion Hall Best (1905-1988),
one of Australia’s first and most influential independent interior designers,
displaying original furniture, fabrics, furnishings and design schemes. Best’s
career spanned four decades from the mid–1930s, a period of transition
from the department store decorators and art furnishers of the 1920s, to the
independent professional designers of today.

MARION HALL BEST: INTERIORS
Her interiors vibrated with bold colours and patterns and a signature of her
commissioned interiors was her vibrant glazed painted finishes on walls and
ceilings.

Best introduced the latest of international modernism in design to
Australians through her shops in Rowe Street, Sydney and Queen Street,
Woollahra, which were an inspiration to the local design profession. A
travelling exhibition from Sydney Living Museums.

SARAH O’SULLIVAN: RESILIENCE
Resilience is Lithgow-based ceramic artist Sarah O’Sullivan’s response to
the fragility and the strength of the Australian landscape – its capacity to
absorb disturbance and maintain its integrity as a functional ecosystem.

Many Australian ecosystems have evolved with resilience to regular
disturbances such as bushfire, flood and drought cycles. O’Sullivan draws
parallels to the ceramic medium in which soft clay is extracted from the
earth and transformed into hard, stone-like porcelain after being subjected
to the intensive firing process.
Individually, her ceramics represent different aspects of the natural
Australian environment: disparate foliage, textures, seeds and shadows.
Grouped together, the ceramics demonstrate the survival and subsequent
rebirth of the environment — resilience. A BRAG exhibition.
