ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Impact the future -Leading today’s learners for tomorrow
“The Church must be attractive. Wake up the world! Be witnesses of a different way of doing things, acting,
living! It is possible to live differently in this world.”(Pope Francis)
“The future is not something that happens to us!
It is the world we weave from the confluence of past gifts, present decisions and future-directed action.”
(Foresight International)
Many experts believe that the next ten years will see the equivalent of more than a 100 years of change. In
the McKinsey Report we are told that the most fundamentally important issue of our time will be our need
to re-skill and to provide the safety net and the incentives to do lifelong learning. This is going to be critical
for society and it’s happening a lot faster than we’re prepared to deal with it. If educational institutions,
businesses and societies don’t get it right, we’re going to have a massive societal disruption. We will have a
world with increasing inequality. It is suggested that up to 30% of current work will be displaced by
automation by 2030, affecting up to 3.2 million workers in Australia alone.
The Foundation students starting in your schools this year will enter the workforce in 2031. How
are we preparing them for this world?
What should we be implementing in the schools that we are leading today?
What will the schools and workplaces of tomorrow look like?
How will the extreme technological changes occurring in the world impact these?
What role will faith based beliefs play in this new world order?
What are the key skills and attributes we must be teaching our current primary aged students
to ensure they are successful, contributing members of the new world society
Outstanding world class futurists, business people and innovators will help you make sense of the
direction schools must be taking.
This 2019 VACPSP Conference was designed specifically by your colleagues. We are sure that the
beautiful coastal town of Lorne and the magnificent Mantra Resort will be a superb setting for our
adventure.

9.30am Keynote 1 Primary Schools in Changing Times: Understanding and responding to
the generational trends now and towards 2030
Nowhere is generational change more evident than in Australia’s
schools. Generation X are the emerging leaders and school parents,

today’s primary school students, the most global, visual, and
technological generation ever. Never before have the generational
changes, social trends, and demographic shifts combined to impact
schools in such significant ways.
In this session, Social Analyst Mark McCrindle will outline Australia’s
growing and changing population, household shifts and emerging family
structures, socioeconomic changes and redefined household budgets. He
Mark McCrindle will also explore parents as customers, their independent schooling
expectations, and how social media and digital integration is
transforming learning spaces, places, and styles.
In addition, Mark will deliver a snapshot of Australia now and towards

It is time for a shift in thinking! A shift in focus from the status quo to
disruption; from efficiency to effectiveness and as Drucker suggests from
“doing things right to doing the right thing”. These are the shifts
required for leaders to maximise the opportunities and navigate the
challenges ahead of today’s learners.

How I create a unique, never before seen magical experience for the
audience using what I call the 8 fundamentals of magic (Appearance,
disappearance, transposition, levitation, penetration, transformation,
restoration, predication) to create an original effect.
How I managed to diversify my niche brand and expand it across the
nation and the world. From fiction to non-fiction books, magic kits,
playing cards, cartoon series, TV Specials and live touring. 50% of future
jobs haven’t been created yet. So how do we educate the generation of
tomorrow for something that doesn’t exist? This is about the true
importance of creativity and why it is the most underestimated human

Generations
New technological advancement is creating profound shifts in every sector
and industry, but how might they affect our emerging generations? How will
they affect the way we live and work as we move into this increasingly
uncertain future? And what opportunities are on the horizon? In this
exciting and mind-opening presentation, Dr Jordan Nguyen will take us on a
journey through some of the futuristic technologies shaping and changing
our future workforce, what he has witnessed in his travels around the world,
what are the desirable skills and traits for Primary Schools to be focusing on
now, and how embracing the rapid rate of change and an innovation
mindset is allowing us to unlock amazing possibilities previously thought
Dr Jordan Nguyen impossible. Change in school has happened, but greater changes need to
come if we are to adequately equip our students with the necessary skills
and mindsets of the future, to take on challenges and opportunities we
haven’t yet even imagined.

In a constantly changing world, a world that presents increasing pressure
on performance, achievement and preparedness for any Future scenario, a
world of wealth and poverty, of peace and war, a world where fear can
influence crucial decisions, it is often easy to forget the exceptional
abilities and qualities that Human Beings share.
If we are to truly thrive, to grow in a greater confidence, one that
overcomes fear and eradicates ignorance, then building a connection to
‘the other’ is crucial.
For me, the future is in technological advancement, however the power is
in the hands of the Human behind the tech.
