High-level Advisory Board established
2nd Experts Meeting: Building a shared energy
vision, 24 September 2020 (via zoom)
finalized the definition of the ProMED scenario
within the Near Zero Carbon framework
The results will be disseminated early 2021 & at the
UfM energy ministerial meeting, 21st April, Portugal

Energy demand and emissions trends drastically differ in the 2
scenarios – less than one-third of fossil fuels in the energy mix
(343 Mtoe) and 740 MtCO2 by 2050 in the ProMed

The effects of the new EU strategies at the Euro-Mediterranean level
(e.g.: hydrogen strategy, carbon neutrality) must be duly analysed to
assess at which horizon carbon neutrality in the Mediterranean can be
reached with current policies and how to accelerate it further

The Mediterranean is a net energy importer, but can become a net
energy exporter in 2050 in the ProMed
South Med countries in particular can become net exporters
already by 2030 with the implementation of energy transition
policies

Aim: to discuss and fix the contents of three reports and
events related to them
The role of renewable gases as an energy carrier
towards a low carbon Mediterranean energy future
Power to Gas, a sector coupling perspective towards
a more sustainable energy transition in the Euro-Med.
area
The switch from coal to gas in the power sector
Within this WG theme, will also be organized a
Conference on the role of decarbonised / renewable
gases, power to gas technologies and sector coupling in
the Med. energy transition end March/early April 2021.
